What are the very best mods?

GIven that there are 20,000+ mods, there's no easy way to evaluate them all, and no two people have the same tastes, either. What it comes down to is determining instead what you want in the game, and you can best do that by making notes of the things you don't like as you play, then asking specifically for a mod or mods that improve that feature.

For example, you may want companions when you go into battle. Fine: ask about companions, and specify whether you just want quiet packrats who will attack when you attack, or whether you want very vocal companions who have personalities and comments to add when you visit new locations, or companions who have lengthy quest systems of their own.

Or you may want "better graphics," in which case, you need to define what better means to you, where you want those graphics improved, and what system you're running on, so people can give you suggestions that don't reduce your framerate to a crawl.

Feel free to disregard the above. In that case, just look at the Top 100 downloads of the site. Those are obviously skewed, but they should tell you something, and best of luck. :)

GENERIC copy/paste:

If you want the most help possible it helps to give as much information, and uniqueness as possible.

Here's my generic written thing for these topics. if you want something specific give more details. I ask some questions in the below text as a small guide line. You can answer them if you wish:

Lists and resources for finding many popular mods, and some good mods:

(note the distinction between the two, don't just follow mindless peer pressure, try and make your own opinions and find what you'll like)

List of topics exactly like yours generic pleadings for "Any mods?" that have already been answered:

http://forums.bethso...list-of-topics/

Read the AZERessential topics to get the basic "get wryebash, OBMM, OBSE, start slow" basic advice for starters recommendations

If you want any further help I suggest you tell us about yourself; what you like and what you're looking for... Here's some questions to get you started:

Have you played Oblivion already?

What sort of things interest you?

What type of Character do you usually play? (good/evil, theif/mage, roleplayer/random-no-story-hack-and-slasher?)

Are there specific types of mods you think would interest you? (Quests, graphic mods, gameplay mods, overhauls, etc.)

When did you leave?

What did you not like about Oblivion? What did Oblivion not have or need more of?

Male or female character?

For the occasional "What are your must haves?"

Mostly quest mods: http://kno.li/i

My favorite quests are:

Integration (my most favorite)

Malevolent, Runied tail, Tears of the fiend

Windfall

The Blackwood company

Dremora Companion

Servant of the Dawn

Imperial Legion Faction

Gameplay mods:

Hear No Evil

Vector

Crime Has Witnesses

Audacious Magery

Conduit magic

Custom spell Icons

Training cattle

Keychain

Refscope(good for troubleshooting)

Vows and Covenants

Pluke's roleplaying persuasion

LAME (No longer needed for Integration)

RBP (No longer needed for Integration)

I'm mostly a quest mod player and I recently posted a big rundown for most of them that I've played here and here.

(Some of these are probably outdated by now)

S'lider's Copy/paste

SkyRanger-1's

Pseron Wyrd's top 10 (Don't really want a lot top 10's or simple lists but I'm desperate for cop/pastes at the moment)

Tommy H's

I like Open Cities. Unique Landscapes (the compilation) is amazing, and is probably my favorite 'single' mod/collection of mods.

I also like Deadly Reflex and HGEC bodies.

You've probably heard of those though.

The best rare/hard to find mods in my opinion are below.

pfroggy's climbing --> lets you climb any vertical surface, including castle walls, straight trees, walls, etc. It's perfect when paired with Open Cities.

Natural Faces --> improves face textures

Only Human --> It makes every NPC into a human. No more Orcs or Elves, for example. I use it for realism, and because the beast races and Mer just look a little silly in Oblivion.

ImpeREAL Empire, Unique Forts --> adds epic, active Imperial Forts to the landscape. I haven't had problems with Unique Landscapes, but there are patches available.

Get Wet --> makes everyone look wet when in rain, and maybe after swimming although I never really swim in third person so I haven't checked.

Campfire Behavior --> Adds dynamic behavior to certain fires, such as the ability to make campfires and set junk piles ablaze. It may only be on Planet Elder Scrolls. I've had some bugs with it.

Alternative Beginnings --> Excellent mod that lets you role play a new start to the game, from a variety of options.

then you probably need a animation replacer http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35551

and now You have a fine person walking through Oblivion.

for better athmosphere I suggest

If you don't like leveling system try oblivion war cry,( english translation) and only the boss monsters will level up.

my most liked housemod or have a look to Real estate

companionmods: Vilja, , Saerilet

, blade song and a mod I adore but cant really use because its from Japan

You personalize your game by taking your favourite mods. No other one plays the same game.

Oblivion is in my opinion the most and best modded game in the world.

Best quests you find in hot 100

One little hint at last. Do not put in all mods at once. Go step by step and test, test, test.

Don't forget ;)

have fun
