Grand Theft Auto - where to start

I've never played any of the Grand Theft Auto series and feel I need to rectify the situation.

I was thinking of jumping straight into GTA V but am concerned my laptop will struggle: i7 4910MQ , 8GB, GTX 860M.

Should I give it a try and just minimize settings if required or could people recommend a better place to start, maybe San Andreas or GTA III?

Cheers

Since Vice City is only $10 I'll give it a whirl - Thanks for the advice! Will it run on Win 7 OK?

I've been playing computer games since 1981, so old school is fine by be!, thanks for the heads up on the RAGE engine - good to know.

It should run ok, specially if you install Vice Cry mod

Enjoy it

P.S.: After VC, I suggest you playing Liberty City Stories rather than GTA 3, you can do it with a PS2 or PSP or Android emulator. Story line is more entertaining, it features necrophilia (you will discover the dark side of a not so important VC character, which has a more central role in LCS)!

I recommend you start with Vice City and then playing the games that were released after, in the order they were released. I was very young when I played VC the first time but I remember having some good fun. San Andreas is regarded as one of the best and most memorable of the series, and for good reason. I had great fun with IV as well, with Rockstar really nailing the emotional impact this time around. And then lastly V which was, imo, a real step-up in terms of everything, especially in the Multiplayer aspect if that's something you fancy.

Good luck and have fun!

As far as your laptop being able to run GTA V, it should run it just fine. As for the order you should play them, personally, I think it's best to play them in the order of release (starting with GTA III, you can skip the first two).
