Malchik
The world of Zorlon was once pretty much like Earth. It comprised eight land masses separated by water in one part of which a people lived who knew no land. Sadly one group of countries was forever at war. The wars were so destructive that the wizards of Tagfier (one of the warring nations) cast a spell that split each of the nine nations into separate dimensions without obvious means of communicating. Over millennia the dimensions forgot about each other. A year ago a threat to all the dimensions led to them coming together for a one-off battle. And yet, whether by design or accident, how this was possible was forgotten immediately afterwards by all but a few. Now there is another threat and those who led the last campaign are called again to rally the whole of Zorlon. The quest involves several groups of questers all of whom are pre-defined (name and attributes). Beyond that the characters may train, purchase goods and behave pretty much as they wish within the constraints of standard RPG - no power posting, no killing of colleagues, no directing of colleagues etc. Slightly modified D&D rules will be used but the emphasis will be on co-operation within the group as much as conflict. An ability to make your character come alive would add to the enjoyment of the game. Initially I am starting with one group of four questers (a fifth player will be added later). I have already had interest expressed by several members of the forum with whom I have discussed it by PM. If it goes well I will widen the RPG to add other groups on separate but related quests. I am looking for players to take on the roles of 1. A young wizard who has great empathy skills and power over the element of Earth. He can change into a wolf. He knows many spells but for reasons I will PM the player with his ability to cast outside the elemental sphere of earth is very small. He has moderate fighting skill with a sword. 2. A female warrior with power over the element of Fire. She has great skill with most close combat weapons and with thrown weapons. She has a magical dagger that can transform into any weapon she chooses. I have yet to confirm definitely whether the other places are still available or taken but for information they are. 3. A farm hand who was sent to prison for telling the truth. He is impossible to lie to but cannot lie. He has high charisma and personality skills without even being aware of it. He is skilled with those implements closest to farm implements like pitchforks and is learning how to use the sword by training with the warrior. He has no magic skills. 4. A street kid with a photographic memory for places and anything written. He is an accomplished thief good at sneaking and hiding and squeezing into small places. His preferred weapon is the dagger. He carves and works stone into whimsical gems and has learned how to throw pots. If you are interested please post here (specifying which character you would like to play). If you are not lucky this time but the game works well I will open it up to others. I hope to start the game if enough interest is expressed at the beginning of next week. Switch
Just to let people know, I'll be Ford (the farm hand). Thanks Malchik ^^
Sol'Kanar
I'd like the role of the street kid, if I'm accepted that is :) One question tho, will the players need a prior knowledge of D&D rules to play? If no, count me in :)
Peregrine
I'll take character 2. If this is going to be based on d&d, what are the differences? Are you just adding a custom rule or two, or are you completely changing it, using only the basic method of attack/skill checks? Could you post a list of exactly what things are changed? Malchik
Okay we have eight interested parties so I will run two groups with different quests on Zorlon. I'm waiting on Peregrine to say if he's willing to go with a different character otherwise I'm sure that Emry would swap. But assuming Peregrine is okay with my suggestion we have the first group - Switch, Theta, ShinJiOh and Emry ready to start on Monday. Greywolf, Peregrine, Sol'Kanar and Kethruch possibly Monday or Tuesday. There are still two places available for people who would like to come in later. And for those who ask about D&D rules, in principle it means I use dice to establish the success or otherwise of any action a player wishes to undertake. However this is modified in so far as certain skills are always successful. A list of skills etc. will be sent to the players before the game begins. Also there are no random events at least as currently planned.
Peregrine
Ok, so what rule changes are you using? I know d&d 3.5e pretty well, so please, give me the full details. Are you adding a minor custom rule or two, or is the only thing you're keeping "rolling dice to determine success". As for skills being successful, I assume you don't mean even the most difficult ones? Because the easy stuff already is automatic when not in combat (take 10/20, even ignore checks), and even if climbing is normally successful, should you really be able to automatically climb a smooth vertical wall while fighting a horde of monsters? On the random events thing, all I can say is thank you. Planned storyline >> randomly generated one.
