madmongo
I am presently working on a large mod that covers northwest Nevada, eastern California, and parts of Arizona. There are a lot of areas from Fallout 1 and 2 included. This is not a remake of Fallout 1 and 2. This is my interpretation of what those areas are like in the current FNV timeline, several decades after Fallout 2. Shady Sands has grown into the huge New California Republic. The Hub and Junktown are now part of the NCR. The Van Graffs have moved into New Reno and are shaking things up there. That sort of thing. The external landscape is pretty much done. I am currently adding interiors, NPCs, quests, etc. Mapping Fallout 1 and 2's tile based map onto a modern FNV style map proved to be a bit problematic in places. In the earlier Fallout games, Necropolis is east of the Hub. However, in the real world, Necropolis is the ruins of Bakersfield and the Hub is Barstow, which puts Necropolis west of the Hub. Also, if you go by distances, Shady Sands would be somewhere in western Nevada and it should be the New Nevada Republic instead of the New California Republic. I relocated Shady Sands to the southern end of the Owens valley in California, since that made a lot more sense. It also gives the NCR a plausible reason for why it was able to expand so quickly. It first grew up through the Owens Valley, which is protected somewhat by mountains on either side. The Den also happens to fit roughly near a place called Susanville in real life. I found this interesting since there's a prison not far from there, and I though that the prison would be a great place to hold slaves. So while a lot of the Den is pretty close to the old Fallout version (Becky's Casino and the Brotherhood Outpost are in and around Susanville), the actual slaver operation is in a fortified prison. The combination of the strong prison walls and the Brotherhood outpost explain why the NCR hasn't been able to take over this area yet. This should give you a good example of some of the changes I have made from the original Fallout games. If you side with the NCR, after the battle of Hoover Dam you will be able to continue the fight to a large Legion fort in Kingman, AZ, and then you will be able to continue on to Flagstaff to defeat the Legion capitol. Similarly, if you side with the Legion, you'll be able to continue the fight all the way to Shady Sands and you will be able to take out President Kimball in his own home. That should give you an idea of what I am up to. Currently, you can go west from the Mojave Outpost, which will take you along I-15 to Baker and the Hub. The NCR has some forts in this area, specifically the old marine base just outside of Barstow and also Fort Irwin north of the Hub. Junktown is also in this general area, as are some small towns that aren't in Fallout 1 and 2 like Pahrump, NV. This mod pretty much ignores Lonesome Road because it makes no sense. NCR soldiers in the Mojave Outpost complain how they just walked there from the Hub and their feet hurt. Those soldiers don't say anything about having to brave Marked Men and don't mention climbing through toppled buildings and going through deadly tunnels. The towns in Lonesome Road also have no real world equivalents in that area. And where exactly is the Divide supposed to be? Possibly further west in the mountains, but the landscape doesn't match what is actually in that area. So I-15 in my mod takes you past Baker and down to the Hub. I stopped short of Bakersfield (Necropolis) and I don't go any further south than the Hub. I would really like to add Necropolis at some point, but for now I have to put some limits on this or it will never get done. Similarly, I stopped short of Sac-Town (Sacramento) and Mariposa, since that's a very busy area and would require a lot of work. The mod includes One Pine (actually Lone Pine, called One Pine by President Kimball in his speech at Hoover Dam), Independence, Big Pine, Bishop, and Benton (basically, the Owens Valley). Going Northwest from New Vegas, you go through Indian Springs, Amargosa Valley, and Beatty, then you can hop over the mountains and go through part of Death Valley to reach Shady Sands. North from Beatty you go through Goldfield and Tonopah. On the eastern side of that map, there's nothing there but desert. Nope, nothing to see there. No secret military base containing aliens, that's for sure. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. From Tonopah, you can go west to Benton or north through Hawthorne, which is another military base. Whether you go north from Benton or north from Hawthorne, either way you'll end up south of Carson City. Ever wonder why no one ever mentions Carson City in Fallout 1 and 2? Hmm... it's like the city got nuked or something and no longer exists. Anyway, avoid the ghouls and such, and you get to New Reno. From there, you can go around the Big Circle - Broken Hills, Gecko, Vault City, Modoc, Redding, and the Den. North(ish) from Modoc you can go to Klamath. South of Redding, there's a few places in former California - Red Bluff, Chico, and Yuba City. Also, south from Searchlight, you can go to various small towns and military bases on both sides of the Colorado River, with the NCR on one side and the Legion on the other. There's a lot of stuff in New Reno, including a quest to either take control of New Reno yourself or give control to the NCR, who has been wanting control of New Reno for years. This mod currently has 7 world spaces, but these world spaces are nowhere near as densely packed as the are around FNV. This is mostly Arizona and Nevada, and some sparsely populated areas of California. There are huge stretches of open wasteland with nothing in them except some wild critters, because if you go there in the real world today, there's really nothing there. Seriously, large parts of Arizona and Nevada are just freaking empty. Vault 13 and 15 are included, and of course Vault 8 is now Vault City, which is currently under NCR control (barely - there';s some quests related to that). I also included my idea of what Vault 36 should be like, based on its one-line description from lore. There's an alternate start that is optional for the mod. With the alternate start, one of the options is that you can start in Vault 36. If there is anything that you would like to see in any of these areas, please post your ideas in this thread. I can't promise to add everything. Some areas are pretty well flushed out and I can't add much more to them easily. Other areas are just shells at this point and can be tinkered with much more easily. I have been working on this mod for a long time, and it still has a long way to go. Also, if you are expecting a Bethesda/Obsidian quality mod, you are going to be very disappointed. I'm just one idiot working alone. I don't have the artistic talent or the time to make something of that quality. I'm mostly doing this for my own enjoyment, but I think some other folks might find this at least somewhat enjoyable to play. So, any requests? madmongo
options to weaken either legion/NCR control in the ares to in name only status( for independent/House playthroughs) and the option for New Reno takeover be a. join a family already established and take over the whole city, with the take leadership of your family be optional b.start your own family and take over c.recreate the Godfather baptism and leave a power vacuum in New Reno devolving it to anarchy I was already planning on having one of the alternate start options be that you are a member of one of the existing families (Bishops or Wrights). It didn't make much sense to me that they would let an outsider rise to lead their family, but maybe I can consider that as an option. Maybe if you aren't born into the family you can rise to become the leader's right hand without actually taking over. If anyone has thoughts on the matter, please share them. As for starting your own family and taking over, that's already planned. If you look in the screen shots for New Reno there's a round building in the background. That's a closed casino. You can partner with the ghoul who owns it and basically rise to take over all of New Reno. I hadn't considered option C. I like that idea. I'll have to figure out how I can incorporate it into the mod. Thanks!
BarackOshizzle
After having taken a look at some of the worldspaces I've come to the conclusion that you should REALLY try to add some more rocks, add small variations to the terrain height and you should add different textures to the base texture. madmongo
One worldspace isn't textured yet. Also, LOD isn't done (some worldspaces have landscape LOD done but that's it) and I will be adding landscape items (trees, rocks, etc) last to avoid bugs due to the 16MB limit in objects per mod. A lot of the landscape is flat because those parts of Arizona and Nevada are flat and I wanted the mod to reflect that. Some areas of the map are much more hilly. Admittedly though, I'm not the world's best landscaper.

dubiousintent
Most areas known as "flat" have lots of depressions and gullies, so their level tends to drop in places rather than climb as hills. Rather than "hill" you have slow, gentle rising elevation that then drops off. Most of that region was "inland sea" bed in it's formative eras. So there is considerable variation in depth where the surface from a distance looks "flat". Think "inverted" terrain features for variety. "Trap door spider" type ambushes. As for "pre-war" military bases in that area: they encompass large areas of land, but have relatively small developed areas. The military values "open" natural terrain for training and research. What you are more likely to encounter are "impact areas" with unexploded munitions of all types: artillery, bombs, rockets, mines, etc, as well as the occasional bunker for storing munitions. -Dubious- Edited May 17, 2017 by dubiousintent
ericthecleric444
The scope of your project is impressive! So, I've been re-reading my Tom Clancy novels, currently on Executive Orders. I don't know if it's in the part of Arizona you're working on, but Fort Irwin is in that state. It's the Army's National Training Center. Apparently it's the size of Vermont, and would have cameras everywhere to catch the exercises that are going on. You could do some research on that place to see if it's in the areas your working on. It might be fun to include that base. What would it be like in 2077, and in time leading up to the Fallout: New Vegas game?
