EmuXanadu
Hi everyone. I've been trying to work out how to make distant waterfalls animate ingame because once you get a certain distance away from them they just become frozen. I've tried editing the LOD levels for the static meshes in the Creation Kit but nothing seems to change. I even tried using the meshes from effects/waterfalls as the lod meshes because I assume they are the closeup animated ones. Still doesn't work. Does anyone have any idea because I can't get this to work and I'm still learning the CK too. Does anyone also know what the "use high detail LOD" tickbox does as well? Please help if you can. shotgun188
The reason it doesn't work is because all LOD is static.
EmuXanadu
Ok thanks. Its a shame if theres no workaround for it but so be it.
shotgun188
Bethesda should really upgrade the engine to support moving LOD. Anyway, here is an example of LOD always being static: In Oblivion, if you looked carefully at both the close and LOD water, the LOD water wouldn't have any ripples. I'm 99.99(on for infinity)% sure that static LOD is still the only LOD in Skyrim.
EmuXanadu
Yes I've seen that happen in Oblivion so I'm certain you're completely right. I just thought it might have been possible to fool it into using the actual animated meshes rather than the distant static ones. I'll keep trying even if its doomed to failure, kind of breaks immersion for me. Distant spray from waterfalls do animate but the falls themselves don't, weird. In effect a couple keyframes. the LOD versions aren't multilayered, I'd hope you wouldnt need to fiddle them to make it look good. just animate the texture already seen on them, Not really going to break the bake I don't think. I'll throw something together in a bit and see if it works. edit: I am guessing that animation is actually disabled in LOD meshes entirely. You could try going into the waterfalls entries and disabling them from using a LOD mesh altogether. Edited February 13, 2012 by Ghogiel
EmuXanadu
Ghogiel: Ok I'll have a further look into it. Thank you for at least trying to get it to work. Edited February 14, 2012 by EmuXanadu
