What mod do I need?

Is there a mod that can read both the original Skyrim mods and the Skyrim SE? I have the Skyrim SE.

I could only find the Special Edition of Skyrim when I bought my copy. Will the same mods for the first edition game still work on the Special Edition game, or will I need something to allow it to write in there?

Keep in mind I'm very new to this.

Some mods will, some won't. Everything that comes with a plugin (.esp) won't work.

You can convert "old" plugins for the Special Edition with the Creation Kit for the Special Edition. Besides that there is no easy tool that will do it automatically for you.

Generally, no. The Skyrim mods will work with Skyrim and the Skyrim SE mods will work with Skyrim SE. That being said, "Oldrim" mods can be ported over, to be used in SSE, but depending on the complexity of the mod, that may or may not be something the author wants to do. There are threads in the modders section of the forum, about how to port mods over, bearing in mind that you'll need the author's permission if you plan to do anything other than personal use.

At a minimum, you'd need to get the new Creation Kit, from bethesda.net (download their launcher for that) and use it to open an oldrim mod, save it and it should reconfigure what it needs to. That being said, there have been issues where the water didn't reconfigure and would have to be changed manually. Also, the meshes will most likely need to be converted to the format SSE uses. There's a nif optimizer tool available on the SSE nexus for that, and you can also download nifskope (free) and change them manually.

in short, if it's not already ported over or made in the new CK, you will need to do some downloading and spend some time in tutorials, in order to be able to make it work. My suggestion would be to search the SSE nexus for mods that will suit your needs, and only take on the hassle of porting mods you simply can't find here. Even then, if they're complex mods that require SKSE (Skyrim Script Extender) , you may just not get to use them until/unless we get an SKSE for the special edidtion.
