Dam

Replace it. If it is coming up with errors now, that means it is soon to be dead. Back up the data, replace it, be happy.

Damn, well, I already have a replacement, but nowhere near as big (300 GB instead of 1.5TB) So it will stay permanently unplugged in my PC until I find somewhere to put all that data.

did you try running a dskchk? won't stop you from getting a new drive, as it would still be bad, but it could stop the errors, and give you the opportunity to get the data off easily.
