The Life and Times of Some Human (Rules & Discussion)

Welp i'm thinking of setting up another RPG, no don't worry i will be doing Grim as well. The thing is... there arent a lot of RPs these days and when the only active one on these forums is the award winning (i wish) dark mystery adventure game Grim well people just have nothing to do. So i decided to try another one out and see if anyone is interested. this RPG will have mechanics like Grims but it will have fewer hidden mechanics... as in i will kinda point out how several of them work as we go versus Grims rule of making you figure them out.

Setting:

-Earth.2

Essentially earth in a future setting. i dont want to set an exact date but hover cars are a thing a space colonies are cropping up fast (we made it to the moon this year! of Jupiter...) there are also people who have augmentations that increase their various abilities and skills such as upgrading a guy from one hand to one hand another slightly better hand! Currently Earth has 17 Galactic Systems and 8 planets with natural breathable air.

Possible Locations:

-Anywhere on Earth

-Mars City

-Deimos (Galactic Naval Base)

-Moon Base 9 (we dont talk about the other 8)

-Pluto Space Port (Galactic Naval Base)

Other locations will come in time... yes you can travel in SPAAAACE! first though you need a job you slacker!

Character:

Unkown, will be made later by players.

Jobs:

yes you have to get a job... hey! get back here! i'm not going to force you to play through the work day unless you want to. the thing is you have to get a job to pay the rent and move forward in life. the thing is you can literally do whatever you want. Work at Spaceway or McBurgers or even become the greatest crime lord in the galaxy! or... you know whatever.

Rent:

only matters till you get a house or a space ship... then you have to pay bills or maintenance/docking fees.

Days:

a single day constitutes 24 actions. example working takes 5 actions to do: Go to work 1 action + Work 3 actions + go home 1 action. of course this can change based on jobs and if you intend to not go home after work.

Roommates/Crew/Family:

as the game progresses you may hire on crew, get a roommate or two, or even start a family. when these occur your 'household' will expand and you can switch between characters to mix things up or play your own character. for Roommates you just have to ask to create one and i will see if it is possible, some places are only made for one person at a time for example and to create another character will require a bigger place. Hiring crew will require you to have the funds to pay them as they cost money on a daily basis but do not have to live with you. Family works like how real world families work, a stork brings you and some man/woman a little person and expects you to do something with it.

General rules:

-you do not control characters directly, only suggest actions and the character will play them out

-troll posts will be ignored and reported

-no vegan garbage

Q&A:

Can I die?

yes... of course you can... you're a human being.

Do i start with Augs?

no

Will there be more Q&As?

Yes, ask questions below.

if people are interested then i will make this into a thing.

ah, good ol' forum-based RolePlaying Games.

it's pen and paper's digital cousin in long form, reminds me of "correspondence chess composing",

which probably has something to do with the similar intermittent popularity levels...

by goodness though am I an RPG fan.

I digress, an RPG with Qwerty as games-master/MC'ing is fairly awesome.

I'd probably roleplay as a recently unemployed IT person...

the IT guy from that Bruiser skit, if visuals'd help.

forgive the brief tangent which never happened below (I'd put it all in sous-rature, but that's exceedingly hard to read)

which follows;

----

In a town, on the outskirts of middle-suburbia,

I'd specify where by latitude and longitude, but those went the way of Nationstates and the dodo a long time ago,

and ceased to be used in "common parlance"...

In this town, which could be anywhere, a person disappeared.

Not much was known about them, a slow news day about a |present POTUS| this and foreign relations that, took precedence.

That'n tibbles the cat, who'd circumnavigated the world counter clockwise in a balloon.

rumors persisted in the months after, that there had been that night:

a localized ethereal wind, some kind of loud racket, and an odd " cheshire blue box".

|cue opening titles as played by The Jackpot Golden Boys and their friends, the Brit-Vegas Rockabilly Trio. |

-----

while I don't know if that would fit this RPG,

I am sorta wanting to test more the exegetical setting and what elements and style are go or no-go.

is it stream of consciousness, is it

Setting:

Dialogue:

Actions etc?

or just short transcripts per interaction block/event?

what kind of allusions are go-/no-go

the over all setup is based around the system i use for Grim: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/5137780-grim-a-choose-your-path-text-adventure/

the difference being that the players directly control their character and refer to said character in the first person, while i simply create a reaction. for example:

Player: I walk across room and get dressed

DM: *1/24 actions* What do you want to wear?

*insert list of cloths*

some actions are counted towards the 24 and others do not. i will inform you of which ones do or dont by listing when an action point is used. so walking around a room will not use actions by itself getting dressed will.

For location and character you can choose yourself

Locations start by specifying a planet (you can choose any listed above) then a city/town on the planet. Though i should point out this is the future and Earths cities are turning into mega cities and towns are changing into Cities. So if your not sure you can simply state a preference for residence, such as suburbs or inner city.

for the character you will need to describe them, here's an example:

Name: Sam Reily

Sex: Female

Age: Unknown, assumed early 20s

Hair: black, cut shoulder length, not well groomed

Eye Color: Dark Blue

Height: 5' 4"

Occupation: N/A

Physical Abilities: unknown, athletic build suggests regular exercise

for the inventory system i will also be using the Grim one, but honestly that probably wont be as big of a deal:

Hands
+Rifle (unknown)

Security Shirt (Button up)
-Kevlar Vest
+Empty Breast Pocket
+Empty Breast Pocket

Security Slacks
Pocket (Bloody Garrote)
Pocket (3 gold coins, 3 ID Cards)
Pocket (Belt, 4 Shoe laces)*Full*
+Belt
++Baton Holster
+++Baton
++Empty Pouch
++Empty Pouch

Security Boots (12 US Mens)

for example the current Grim inventory above shows what the character is wearing and what they have in their pockets. the "+" signs signify they are worn/held over the article of clothing while the "-" means it is worn underneath.
