Really need help please dling my first mod. I am totally stuck.

Recommended Posts

Hi Vorvic. I am using winzip to extract. The info I got on how to get the mod downloaded was the nexus forum:

wiki.http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/How_to_install_mods_for_Fallout_3

This is the texture pack:

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/12056/?

So there is everything I have done. As I said in my first post when I go to extract this is what it says:

Program Files \ Steam \ steamapps \ Common \ Fallout 3 \ Data.

Each time I extract it says the following:

Operation is not supported.

Before I tried to extract to this address it was extracting to this address which just came up as the default:C:\Users\Chris\AppData\Local\Temp\. The one above was what the wiki said to extract to.

It seems silly to uninstall steam just to be able to dl some mods.

Is there any help for this problem available???

Thanks,

Chris

Did you read the installation instructions on the mod description page? These are the instructions given by the mod author and are the instructions that should be followed.

What you are trying to do is not supported. The texture pack you downloaded is intended to be installed using the Nexus Mod Manager, just as it says on the mod download page.

Did you read the line just below the file title? "Single file for the Large Pack Pack, for installing using Nexus Mod Manager"

Did you also download the Large Address Aware Enabler for FO3?

Since you have the game installed in "Program Files" you will continue to have problems installing mods.

You do not have to uninstall steam to install mods. You have to move steam and your games out of "Program Files". There are instructions on steam on how to do this.

I suggest you start doing more research by reading the comments section of each mod you want to use before you download them.

I see what you mean. Ok. I downloaded the Nexus Mod manager. I was able to download the unofficial fallout three patch with no problem as it shows in the Mod Manager as well as the data files in fo3. Now, I downloaded another file but I am having trouble knowing where to extract it to. When I unzip it this is the path it gives me:

C:\Users\Chris\AppData\Local\Temp\Marts Mutant Mod 1-RC61-3211.7z\

I do not see it in the Mod Manager. I think I am close to figuring this out but I would like to ask for a bit more help with this. Where should I extract it to?

Thanks,

Chris

Did you read the install instructions on the mod description page?

Do you have a dedicated downloads folder in C:\Users\Chris? If not, make one and have all your mods downloaded to that location.

Once you have a Downloads folder, you can maintain a copy of all the mods you have downloaded.

Do you have 7zip to extract .7z files? If not, get it here: http://www.7-zip.org/ You have two choices for the download, pay attention to which is which and download the correct one for your system.

It seems silly you would come here asking advice and then tell people it seemed silly .

#1 move steam out of program files ... then we will talk about what problems you continue to have.

The slow and skinny of what is happening ... is that you're UAC for security purposes , does not like the mod files,

Which is rather common. So moving the installation outside of your "User Account Control" will then bypass this very common problem.

Not that you couldn't fix it ... But it would take an above average Tech savy person.

If you use credit cards on that comp ... I certainly wouldn't go messing with it , if only knowing how to fix it from web advice.
