Marro8punto1
Hello, I just started using mods for the first time this week, and following different turtorials and guides I installed MO and TES5edit and some other good stuff. At first I just wanted to download some good mods, start simple with some patches and fixes, and see how it was, but now I want to actually start creating my own mods, so I started to get a little more knowledgeable with TES5edit, did a couple of experiments that came out good. The question is, for all of those more experienced than I am (probably everyone), how much modding is it possible to do using TES5edit? Is it possible to create new weapons and armor or even new NPCs? What are the limits of that tool? I know I will download the Creation Kit eventually, but I wanted to see how far I can get with what I have right now, if there's already a topic that explains this I would greatly appreciate the link, haha there's just so much stuff here its overwhelming. Thanks!
ymf331
as far as i know you can't create new records, only edit existing ones. on the tes5edit page it says: Using TES5Edit in place of the CK:As TES5Edit becomes more widely used in the Skyrim community it has become a concern that many people still want to use the utility in place of the Construction Kit. This is still not recommended. We work hard to make TES5Edit as accurate as possible but development is directly related to the plugins themselves. TES5Edit can not replicate all the changes that the CK will make. Attack Data is the best example. Merely checking or unchecking certain things for an NPC will alter the attack data dramatically. We won't be adding those types of things to TES5Edit.Please understand that we don't directly support the use of TES5Edit to make major changes to plugins. Aside from all the things the CK will change in a plugin that TES5Edit cannot replicate, Skyrim will react the same way to changes made to a Plugin with TES5Edit. If you have questions about changes you are making to plugins or how Skyrim will react to your changes please direct all questions to the Skyrim CK thread. All changes you could make in the CK are covered in the CK Wiki and therefore don't need to be covered in any TES5Edit documentation. Urtho
You can create new weapon and armor records that the game will understand with TES5Edit quite easily but you'll need a modelling program to create the meshes and textures needed to bring your creation actually into the game as something you can hold or wear. TES5Edit and the Creation Kit do not handle those types of modding tasks in and of themselves, you'll need to learn Blender or 3DSMax or a similar program that can have its models imported into Skyrim via the Creation Kit.
