Beoroth
Having been massively impressed with Skyrim (my first TES experience), I have just ordered the Anniversary edition of Oblivion. Now it's clear that there are thousands of mods out there for Oblivion, so I'm looking for guidance as to which are the "must have" & recommended ones. All advice gratefully received!
Lastito
well, you can take the body replacer of course, those thing make sense the gamebut for the full detail, wait for the master to tell you what you need happy Oblivion :D
62firelight
For a starter, I would definitely download the Unofficial Oblivion Patch (Or just UOP) to fix most of the remaining bugs in Oblivion after the 1.2 patch. Then maybe if you don't like the faces in Vanilla Oblivion you could try a face replacer by searching on TESNexus. Everything you download is up to you really. :)
ponyboy10
There are a lot of suggested mods threads you might want to look through here, and the sticky thread on the steam forum: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=615 I would recommend possibly just the Unofficial patch to start, and just play for a while. I personally did all the graphical mods from that steam thread before i even played once. That's a fine approach, but it does lessen the effect a little and makes it harder to know when/if something isn't right. I wouldn't do any gameplay or leveling mods right off the bat. You might see a lot of complaints about Oblivion's default leveling system, but you won't experience the big downsides to it until you're much further along anyway. The best advice I've seen is to just play for a while, and if there's anything you feel could use improvement, or is otherwise annoying, search for a mod for it (it will likely exist). ponyboy10
Just to follow up, I would recommend using OBMM to install mods. Once you have more than a couple mods, I would also recommend you use BOSS to keep your load order sane.
Lanceor
My usual copy/paste: Everyone has their individual preferences so it's hard to recommend particular mods without knowing what you like. To start with, most people will recommend the Unofficial Patches. These fix a lot of bugs and annoyances that Bethesda had missed. The Unofficial Oblivion PatchThe Unofficial Oblivion Patch SupplementalThe Unofficial Official Mods PatchThe Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch Almost all complex mods require The Oblivion Script Extender (OBSE) to function properly so that may be your next step. If you're going to have more than a couple of mods, Oblivion mod manager will help you arrange your load order. If you're going to have a lot more than a couple, Better Oblivion Sorting Software - BOSS will auto-order most of the mods based on the collective experience of experienced mod users. After that, check the Top 100 for the most popular mods. Or, if you have an idea of what interests you, look through the categories that appeal to you. You can sort them by Endorsements or Downloads to check which ones are the most liked or most popular. If you haven't played through Oblivion though, many would suggest not adding mods until you've played Oblivion for a while and have an idea what would improve your gameplay the most. Personal opinion: The only part of Oblivion that I think is "unplayably broken" is the default leveling system which forces you to play in odd ways if you want to maximise your character. So IMHO, a mod that alters the levelling system is something that I would recommend right from the beginning. All +5 Attribute Modifier or Attribute Plus X lets you use the default system without worrying about how many attribute points you'll get on level-up.Realistic Leveling lets you simply play and your attributes increase automatically based on skills leveled.Oblivion XP gives a classic CRPG style leveling system: earn enough experience points to level up and spend your attributes as you see fit. Have fun with the mods!

TheTron852
I'd recommend to install Unofficial Oblivion Patch, because some quests are bugged. Believe me, this will greatly help. Also, I'd recommend Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul and Martigens Monster Mod, of course.
