Skyrim crash on load/save

So here is what is up. I am having trouble getting Skyrim to run right and was thinking it might be due to load order since I have gotten it to run with these mods before. It will crash when the load screen finishes when I load up a character, but when I start a new character or if it happens to load up another save it will crash when I try to save it. I know my rig can handle the game and that is not the problem. I have run it through LOOT and used FNIS. Any help would be appreciated.

It was not easy to get some of them working by themselves let alone all of them working together, plus this list was built up and modified over years so starting from scratch is not really preferable for me. I suppose I should clarify that my 'not active' files on that list are still there I just unchecked the plugin boxes and don't use them. As for your problem, feel free to message me in private about it, I might not be much help but I can try. I don't want to get off topic in this post, we have all seen how far that can go, nothing personal.

this is gonna' be a pretty long post, but hopefully there's something in here that helps.

i had similar problems. had been using mods for quite some time, and knew the ins and outs of how the files fit together in a general sense. everything would work right, then i'd install a couple more mods, or reach a certain point in the game and KABOOM!

assuming it's not a minor oversight, i can tell you how i got to a point where i can always 100% of the time have a functional game with zero crashes (except for the odd skse plugin bugging out). i've been able to replicate this multiple times starting fresh and not only that, but i've seen new content from mods i'd used for years which was previously overwritten and buried in a tangled web of conflicts.

anyway, this is what i used to do:

1. should go without saying, but always be sure to have all the basic stuff you need for a stable vanilla skyrim first. having all the tools installed (i use mod organizer and tes5edit for pretty much everything). cleaned dlc masters and properly installed skse, crash fixes, project optimization, and enboost. maybe not an absolute requirement but i don't see any reason not to use these textures too.

2. meticulously going through skyrim.ini, skyrimprefs.ini, and enblocal.ini, using the step wiki as a reference.

3. once that's all working great without crashing, then i download all my mods and carefully arrange them so that the wrong assets aren't being overwritten like normal.

4. probably just rehashing stuff you already know by this point, but finishing up with any skyproc patchers, loot, running fnis and crap like that.

all that's great and there's a good chance that the game might run without just immediately crashing. i always wound up with a seemingly un-fixable problem eventually, though. so i started taking these additional steps:

5. mostly due to a graphics card bottleneck, i always go through all my mod textures and standardize them, based on how much space they'll take in-game, using optimizer textures. it may not necessarily be for you, but for stability's sake i reduce my textures for larger objects to 2k-1k, and smaller objects to 1k-512.

6. i fire up tes5edit and spend multiple days meticulously going through each and every plugin to both make sure my load order is correct and to patch every single conflict in them. it's an undertaking, and whether or not you're willing to do it might just depend on how big of a nerd you are. i'll explain how either way.

load every plugin you have in tes5edit, and right-click the empty space in the left pane (the tree-view list of your plugins), and click "apply filter" in the dialogue that appears, make the checkboxes in the upper-left look like this:

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f310/like100ninjas/filters_zpssgqxwkpq.jpg

click filter and wait for everything to process. you should see a bunch of different colored crap on the left now. green/yellow/red are somewhat self-explanatory, like a stop light. the gray (i think it looks like olive) indicates an itm overwrite so pay particular attention to those.

it's hard to explain exactly what to patch, and it's more trial-and-error than anything. the more time you spend looking at it, the more patterns you notice. a web search for "skyrim conflict resolution" turns up a lot more information though.

now how to make a patch:

in the right-side view after you click on a record, you'll see the conflicting plugin records. depending on how you want to change them, right-click the one you want to use as a base and choose "copy as override into..." like this:

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f310/like100ninjas/makepatch_zpsnpgb1y9x.jpg

you'll have the option to choose an existing plugin, or create a new one by selecting <new file> at the bottom, and then naming it whatever you like. this creates a new plugin you can drag records into in an effort to make everything right.

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f310/like100ninjas/fixed_zpslq2nnrek.jpg

you can save the new plugin when you exit tes5edit. this was a very simple example, and sometimes things are a lot more screwed up than just the weight of a helmet being 2 pounds off. somewhere in the sea of little things i find my game-breaking conflicts and fix it all. game works better when i'm done.
