Carah
I know everyone is familiar with the Microsoft error report that will tell you that you have encountered a problem and has to close the program. You have you three choices of Debug, Send Report, and do not send. This happends all the time to me, and I'm wondering if I should be worried. Bill Gates won't send any hired goons after me, will he?
Alaisiagae
I get the same thing, too. Don't bother sending the report, it isn't like it will do any good...
bben46
If you send, you will get a generic response stating that it isn't Microsoft's fault and to contact the author of the program. No biggie. just don't bother to send it as its useless.

For some time I put some thought on it, trying to trace the cause, but not anymore, Seems there is no more problem that being boring. To say the truth, today when it not occurs I get concerned  and sometimes I think it's even better this way, oblivion quits more quickly
dyfed99
This happends all the time to me, and I'm wondering if I should be worried.I have resolved this issue (in Vista) installing Oblivion in C:\Oblivion (not Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion, I'm running Vista x64 btw) and turning off the UAC (very boring).Well.. not definitely, but the CTDs were constant before closing the game. Now sometime I still get some CTDs, but it's very rare!
Tamujiin
Why does everybody think vista sucks? Because of that damn UAC................I love vista. Does that make me wierd? anyway i have windows vista, I have pretty darn close to my 256 ESP/ESM thingys in my folder and i dont crash to desktop, except when i first start the game it might CTD but thats like 1/50 times. What my poroblem is it takes forever to get out of it when i do close it down. Like say black screen then like 40 seconds black screen then y desktop appears. No error message though. And when i do get a CTD there is a message.

Those Issues aren't OS driven, I'm inclined to think then as poor memory management. About Vista, we really mustn't begin discussing such things in this forums as this would, almost certainly, initiate flamed discussions. No doubts it has its merits. As for me I'll not migrate to it until it matures enough. It is at transition state, the same as ME was from 9x series toward XP. And so, when it is mature enough I will think again, as I can't cope well with the control level the industry try to put over us (they aren't ever trying to control products anymore, the goal is to control the user). Vagrant0
Why does everybody think vista sucks? Because of that damn UAC................I love vista. Does that make me wierd?Since you asked... Because Vista takes up too many resources, and most older computers who thought vista was an "improvement" ended up not havng good enough hardware to make it work well when anything else is running. That was the initial issue. In addition to that, due to Vista being a ground up programming project, it doesn't work well with older software, or anything which was not made specifically for Vista. Although some of these things have been cleared up, there are still many issues related to this. Third is the security settings, which are actually part of the cause of the second one, the system is so locked down that in order to do even simple things, like install anything or change settings, you need to be on the admin account, and even then you need additional steps in some cases, which are usually more complicated than the average PC user can do on their own. Nevermind the headache that you have to go through to disconnect your broadband internet connection within windows. As far as I know, the CTDs on exit are due to the same reasons why there are CTDs in otner places. Oblivion has trouble unloading ram, and at the slightest hiccup, or if it happens to fill up, it crashes. So yeah, in a way Vista can be responsible since it takes up more RAM than XP. But the same could be said for any process which is taking up RAM. Unfortunately all that RAM usage by Vista cannot be reduced in any way, whereas an unnecessary program could just be cancelled. Tamujiin
I know vagrant wasn't talking to me because i did say i have Vista...... Anyway after reading all that i figured it is a memory issue and Vistadoes take up alot of resources so what i am gonna do and what i would direct carah to do is get some more RAM. if that is possible. I have Vista on one of the computers in the house, outside of a few improvements in the interface, there are just too many issues that end up occuring once you do anything more complicated than browsing the internet and checking your e-mail... And even then there can be issues depending on your mail service. Anyway... Getting more ram may not actually solve anything. The issue deals more with how there is an overflow with RAM, and that is causing the crash. Having more RAM may only result in it being less frequent since the cause of the overflow is within the program. The real question is if RAM will fill up before the program finally closes or not.
