What are the best /current/ mods?

Hey, everyone! So I modded F4 into oblivion a while ago, but I haven't even played it since before Nuka World came out. I want to get back into it now, so I'm hoping you guys will help update me on all the latest and greatest. The kind of mods I like are: cool armor/weapons/clothing/accessories, immersion/realism, quests/adventures/content, settlement building, and then any and all the other cool stuff. Please, if you can recommend stuff, though, keep it lore friendly. I'm not a big fan of Darth Vader armor or slooty/skimpy stuff.

@MrMcGann

you return heh? I assume some awesome mod-collabs may be on the horizon then...

I heartily recommend watching your favorite youtuber mod reviewers of your choice,

such as: Tyrannicon, Oxhound, MxPlays, SunBunz, Petard etc... to name a few,

and that's just the english-speaking mod community,

chances are, if you can think it, there's a mod reviewer out there.

they showcase the mod with 180 second segments.

they do a much better job of MCMC random sampling and updating folks on the mods than I do,

and, there's pictures and sound, rather than a wall of words hehe.

I digress,

there have been a lot of developments;

GameModul's 'para-mod' emulates what Mod Reviewers do;

that is, it will allow you to random sample from other mod installs, and in v3, it will be a useful diagnostic tool for finding mod conflicts etc.

this framework is still emerging, but the idea and concept was awesome to see emerge,

and you may find it useful.

Maxwell's World, Fusion City,

Enclave Returns, the Underboston*,

Good/Bad Institute overhaul, these are must haves hehe.

in terms of upcoming awesome;

War of the Commonwealth v2/v3 is underway.

Todds-ville, you get to have Todd Howard as a companion, and there are Gary-like clones of Todd that unfortunately Todd has to evict.

Permanently, and with extreme prejudice! Blast those inferior Todd Howards until there can only be one,

and to the victor go the spoils. *gestures to ruined wasteland* all this empire of dirt could be yours. (that's the best line from that mod by far hehe)

it's unclear if 'Alpha Todd' is the original or a clone. a really fun mod, and mind-melting when IRL Todd Howard is playing as Todd Howard with a Todd Howard companion!

It's immersive and lore-friendly.

in terms of settlement building,

you'll find a lot of awesome stuff by GreekRage, ChuckSteel and DDProductions or DarthWayne to name a few.

not least are the awesome bounds made in elevators, elevator/variable geometry settlements and helipads.

secret entrances, and doorportals/any door to any where are also exceedingly awesome.

you can pretty much build anywhere,

and with new 'new lands' resources being released, there's a lot of topographies out there to help get you started.

in terms of vehicles,

support BlahblahDEEblahblah, as they're making some neat vehicle projects happen.

we're still working on having a lot more vehicles in game.

another good one, is the 'monorail' and 'rollercoaster', which, look hilarious and can make your settlement go that extra mile.

It's an indianna jwones style coaster too.

as to weapons,

many parts packs projects are underway.

MiB v2 and v3 are in the offing, I am reliably told, v1 was awesome.

there's then Pipe Weapons, a must have.

Forgotten Weapons conversion project - all those implements as showcased by Ian McCallum, particularly khyber pass implements.

WARS - they've got a lot of implements made and underway.,

and then standalones for any thing else you could think of.

chances are, any implement you can think of is there somewhere.

As to attire;

DevTac suit and armors are on their way! those familiar ballistic helms will also be PowerArmor alternate helmets

for the X02 and "Tesla" enclave armors.

there's also the sludge armor - it's an homage to a symbiote, it looks all oil-y and is like spray-on attire,

its neat in a number of ways.

I found the Jwetsons style attires also hilarious, Gelroy's cap is a nice touch, and those floaty-bangle things are nice too.

and another one you might enjoy;

Protectron power armor disguise - you get to wear a protectron armor, over your character!

unarmed heavy attack is a 'free' low power lazer blast too! infinite ammo for the win... at the cost of "cannot run" and overencumbered...

it's bodyslide/CBBE compatible too!

the best bit? no aggro at all while wearing it.

----

secret mods;

I don't know if you like Dr Who,

but I'm told there's a cheshire blue box floating around NMM somewhere,

which is a very awesome moving 'any door to anywhere' flyable instance,

replete with variable 'dashboard' interiors in 'new lands mods'...

thats right, you can build inside that blue box as your very own mobile settlement!

I can't quite recall where it is though, as:

i) I didn't put the handbrake on,

ii) the chameleon arch is working.

this is a real treat, especially for those who enjoyed "FalloutWhoVegas etc"

psst,

did you see the UV Blacklight Pipboy torch mod?

it's perfect for decoding messages written in invisible ink.

v2 is a removeable module, and I hear in v3, it'll be a power-armor headlamp module too.

The wasteland looks weird in blacklight.

I hope that gives you some brief overview of what might be out there,

and I look forward to seeing what else you might come up with in FO4 or FO4VR.

To be entirely honest.
I've basically gone down the Top 200 mods or so on the nexus, picked out any that look like something I'd be interested in, and wound up with a good 20 - 30 that particularly work for me.
The rest of my eighty(!) plus mods are mostly my own work, or small fixes/tweaks to the game that make some specific aspect better, or add some interesting features.

Sometimes, going with the crowd is a good option :)

Ruadhan, that's normally what I've done in the past. Thing is, sometimes the better newer mods haven't made it up there yet. I mean, obviously, I'm going to be using AWKCR, AE, and as much settlement stuff as I can get my hands on. What I'm really looking for is... what are the best overhaul mods around - things that make it more challenging/immersive. Like... there was one I used to use called 'Immersive gameplay'. Stuff like that.

Also, I've heard 'Horizon' is a really good, huge overhaul, but that it doesn't play nice with a lot of other mods. I'd like to use something like that, but I don't know if it's worth not being able to add a bunch of armor/weapon mods in via levelled lists. (I have a hard time seeing my Minutemen without cringing if I'm not using Minutemen Overhaul or We are the Minutemen or something like that. Same with other factions. CAST for the synths, and I forget the ones that fix the Brotherhood's armors and armor paints.)

Best mods are good depending on what you really want. For example, there are several mods that require that you download others to make it work, so If you want this particular mod, you must download others that probably were not in your list.

I do have 115 and everyday I check Nexus for other mods and it is difficult to find something really worth to download. For me, a mod must improve a lot of things at the same time if I am going to download it. If I could just reduce my list to a few, I would probably go with :

- For textures ( and this is a priority for me ) : Grafix ( this is an excellent mod ), Fallout Texture Overhaul ( moon, stars, power armor ), Caliente ( CBBE ), Raider Overhaul, Jetpacks and Flacon Oil's HD = 6 main mods

- Environment : True Storms, Vivid Fallout and FAR ( Farawat are reform ) = 3

- Overhaul : Haul'd Out 4k and Super Mutant Redux = 2

- Gameplay Effects and Changes : Easy hacking, Live dismemberment and No negative affinity cool down = 3

- Immersion : Immersive Lovers Embrace = 1

- Modders Resources and Tutorials : Armor and Weapons Keyword Community Resource ( AWKCR ) = 1

- Utilities : Body Slide and Outfit Studio = 1

- Player settlements : Homemaker, Scrap Everything, Place everywhere and Robot Defense = 4

- Crafting / Home : Crafting Workbenches and Renovated furniture = 2

- Crafting / Equipment : Any mod any weapon ( AMAW ) and Craftable ammo = 2

- Power Armor : Worsin's immersive power armor = 1

- Visual and Graphics : Vivid Fallout ( landscapes, rock and trees ), Fallout Enhanced Color correction and Mega explosions = 3

- Companions : Better companions - No conflicts, Companion Infinite ammo and unbreakable power armor and Loving Piper = 3

- Weapons : Minigun Standalone, Minigun Damage Increase, AN94, PTRS-41, Weaponsmith Extended Crafting Workbenches, M4A1 SOPMOD, DKS-501 and AS Vektor = 8

.... total are about 40 mods ... talking about drastically reducing and choosing only what IMO, are necessary for the game to be much better.

Fallout 4 is all about having : Textures enhancer mods, Home/Settlement Crafting mods, Enemy overhauls ( Raiders and Super Mutants ) and Weapons ... IMHO .... we love to see in HD, we also love to be able to build out own house and settlements, we love for the game to be challenging and to have the best weapons to fight. That is all about IMHO.

I did not include in my list, War in the Commonwealth since this mod ( the new version ) is not out yet but I am waiting for, which will make the game more challenging.

Personally, I do not like to download mods that only improve/enhance a particular item, for example, a mod to make a toolbox HD or to give me a Rayban sunglass ( not saying those mods are bad ) ... my point is that I am not going to over stress my rig by adding mods that do not improve or enhance several things at a time. Again, everyone is free to play the game in their own very way and what is important for me may not be important for someone else.

Last but not the least, for weapons, I resume my gameplay like this : one weapon to wipe out several enemies at the same time ( the Vindicator minigun ), one for stealth and accuracy ( AN94 which IMO, has no match in the game for its very lower recoil ), one weapon for close encounters and inside building combat ( AS Vektor ), one weapon for street fight ( M4A1 SOPMOD ) and one weapon for sniping ( PRTS-41 ) with 20mm Hispano-Suiza ammo or Vulcan.

I do stick with Piper all the time and she is my lover. I do play in Survival mod and switch to Very Hard for saving and fast traveling. I do not care at all about Settlements and/or the Minuteman; I do have my own agenda, looking for my son, stick to the stronger faction ( BOS ) and survive in a very challenging and dangerous world. I am not against the Institute technology ( I love it - matter of fact my house was built using 95% only Institute stuff ) and if Piper get bitchy, I will switch to a doll ... lol ... but they kidnapped my son and killed my wife, so they must die ... but honestly, I have not made my decision yet about what end to choose. I am very sure not to stick to Preston ... for me, he is on his own.
