TuffMcKagan
Hi. I've been playing Skyrim for the past few years, and starting in April, my Skyrim has been randomly crashing. No error log, no lag, no nothing. It would be running at a perfect 45-60 fps, and then boom, back to desktop. I have sorted my load order with LOOT, cleaned all my master files and such with TES5Edit, disabled mods, etc etc, and still no change. This frustrates me immensely, as I cannot immerse myself into this game anymore, being that it crashes on random margins (5 minutes to 45 minutes). Help would be greatly appreciated, friends. gromulos
cleaned all my master files and such with TES5Edit If you "cleaned" Skyrim.esm then that very well could be the cause of your CTD's. You NEVER clean Skyrim.esm, and in my personal opinion you should not clean Update.esm either since essentially it is an extension of the Skyrim.esm. You Mention that you used loot and TES5Edit, but made no mention of Wrye Bash / Smash. Now, not knowing how many mods you are running not having Wrye could also be the problem as well. Wrye does a whole LOT more than TES5Edit does and also handles the merging of mods better than TES5Edit. Lastly, MOST CTD's are caused by 3 things:1) missing patch files2) missing dependent files3) mod conflict
FishBiter
have you tried checking everything in your data folder by taking something out, starting up skyrim to see if it CTDs, then repeating until you've checked it all? I remember one time I was pulling my hair out over a CTD and then eventually I discovered that it was because of a single mesh buried deep in my meshes folder that didn't get uninstalled even when I uninstalled all my mods. I have Wrye, but it doesn't seem to work. I'll get back to you on that.

No missing textures, or anything, but I'll consider your tip.

gromulos
did you use Wrye to check for orange or red mods? Also, check the saves tab in Wrye, if the most recent save is orange or red then you have serious problems to deal with. If it's orange, you MAY be able to restore the save, if it's RED, time to start a new game because after helping dozens of people fix their game / saves, I have never been able to recover a save that was red. ALL OF MY SAVES ARE ORANGE. Some older saves are red. How do I fix this? Even my new, fresh saves are orange!!
gromulos
When your saves are orange it's USUALLY because you deleted a mod that was in the save. Essentially, you broke your saves. There are 2 things you need and can do to fix your top most save ( newest ) 1) go into steam and make sure Cloud is turned off - every single time you either delete a mod or edit an INI, cloud will restore that file, causing major headaches for you2) now go into wrye under the saves tab and click the top save, then look on the right side of the pane where it says "Master List" in that list any mod that is orange or red is either missing or out of place "From here on in, it becomes like a puzzle: you need to manually drag and drop the various masters in your load order until their order is harmonious" I should note here to help your further understand, that when you make a save it "bakes" any mods you have in your load order into the save. Therefor when you remove a mod, or change it's position in the load order, you essentially "break" the save. Think of your load order as a game of Jenga lol  Edited June 20, 2017 by gromulos
