Mephisteus
So you've done the quests to get into a faction, yay. Now imagine that you want to step down, yea... no leaving any faction unless you break a rule or you die. No honorable discharge for the weary. What I am looking for is a way to step down from a faction lead position to a lower rank and with the possibility to regain that leadership position. Like stepping down from arch-mage to master-wizard and through a quest or a simple request or whatever back to arch-mage. Cause honestly I like doing all quests on a single character, but even I am having trouble believing I'm master of the fighters guild, arch mage of the mages guild, gray fox of the thieves guild, listener of the dark brotherhood and so on and so forth (not to mention member factions I don't want to belong to at all, like the knights of the white stallion). Not sure if this is feasible (and if so, any change a quest-less way can be done for non-standard factions? basically just choose what rank you want to be and change it like that?), but definetly hoping it is :P
Vagrant0
Changing faction rank isn't too difficult, making it actually mean anything however is. Unlike in morrowind where there were dozens of little side jobs to keep you busy within a faction. Oblivion only has one route of quests, with nothing in the way of side jobs. Add in the number of variables which are changed through the course of those quests, and quest stages which can't be repeated (for both practical and game coding reasons) and there really isn't any benefit to it. But seeing as how this is the requests section... Any such feature would be extremely dependant on some modder spending alot of time putting in more quild quests, and then coming up with some reason as to why the master personage of that guild can't do those quests without stepping down. Since the first hasn't been successfully accomplished, the later doesn't make any sense. Actually, it would be (and has been done) easier to make a new guild with its own quest line than it would be to add more quests to an existing guild. This is because it's harder to plan a quest around all those existing elements (like current faction rank, what quests have been done, who is no longer alive, but is part of the guild). A new faction can just be built from scratch, and be entirely self-contained.

nosisab
ahwell, can't have it all :) Thanks for taking the time to explain :).Indeed you can advance or demotes ranks in factions even in console. Maybe there are enough users willing such thing at the point to justify a mod, For myself I'm not sure about this. Edit: and as already said, this can break quests badly
