Truly Dorky Settlements

I look at other players screenshots and realize they have created some impressive settlements. I look at my own and realize I tend to create truly dorky settlements.

I use a mod that allows me to increase the amount of items I add to various settlements. I end up ringing the entire perimeter with heavy duty machine gun turrets. Does anyone else do that?

Sometimes, after my settlements get attacked for the umpteenth time despite being very heavily guarded (using sensibly placed turrets and guard posts) I'll just ragebuild a sealed room full of turrets stacked on top of each other. It raises my settlement defense rating by a few hundred and puts a stop to those pesky settlement defense quests :)

im faaar to detail oriented for that. no i go for the "run down but totally a fixer upper i swear" look. also i dont like turrets so i tend to just stick a whole ton a guards on all the things. i also like making city of walkways type settlements where every structure is connect through bridges and walkways, makes finding folk super easy (sarcasm)

I started out with settlements made of crummy wooden panels and rusted bathtubs then gradually progressed to stupidly elaborate settlements where each settler had their own lavishly furnished room. Now I have regressed a bit and my settlements are often Raiderish but with my own quarters a lot nicer. I also don't try to develop all of the settlements.

Since I discovered craftable Bubble Turrets my settlements usually have OTT defence.

I used to build fairly big, plain buildings 2 or 3 floors high and line the roof edges with minigun and rocket turrets. When I did build walls, I used to line them with turrets. I haven't played for a while, but I'm getting a bit nostalgic, so maybe I'll wipe it all (mods as well) from my computer and start from scratch.

I tend to try to make settlements something to be awesome and usually I hit a point where my cpu starts to chug... might be that my prot isn't really meeting the minimum requirements... then I shift to scrapping stuff and building turrets and invisible guard posts using a couple of mods to get my frame rate back up.

Wood hut prefab, a few beds and a chair - that's your life in my commonwealth ;)

Put a turret on top of it or some other natural feature.

I walled Red Rocket on my first playthrough... something I never repeated...!

And the occasional tower with illogical bulging overhanging top (for personal look out space or somewhere to control all the settlement electrics from).

Yeah, my settlements are dorky and s#*! too, no worries! ;)

I absolutely do. Huts, beds, food, water, turrets, done. And the first four are only if they are truly needed by the folks already there. I don't even put up a beacon unless the game insists.

The only settlement location I invest in is the Nuka World Red Rocket. Perimeter walls made from warehouse foundation blocks, electronic doors, elevators, and a four story glass palace atop the coolant station which is connected to the perimeter walls via walkways. My home sans settlers with some noisy neighbor up the hill.
