Skyrim or Skyrim Special Edition?

Personally I found Special Edition as a joke to the PC community at least we got free copies. Looked almost Identical to Skyrim with a few texture mods. not to mention soon you might have to pay for the mods on Special Edition so we'll see how much more they can screw it up.

There will still be free mods. Not all mods will be paid mods, and the ones that are sold on the Creation Club are curated by Bethesda. The Creation Club isn't as bad as everyone is making it out to be.

yeah and it's not like we will get a ton of mods there due to restrictions and quality control.

I am getting tired of the apocryphal announcements that Creation Club will kill free mods. CC is no more or no less than Bethesda contracting with established mod authors to create content. Free mods will still exist because (a) not every pitch will be accepted and (b) there will still be need for patches as Bethesda does a poor job of fixing their bugs.

Now, which is better? Game play and story are pretty much identical, just the visuals are better. The 64 bit engine seemed more stable, but that is just my opinion. Lastly, Bethesda is already moving away from Oldrim and LE and pushing SE. So in terms of future support, SE is the way to go.

Mods for SE are in limited supply, and mods from the other versions are considered incompatible. Saves are not portable and the SKSE64 is not ready, so mods which require the Script Extender are going to be late in porting.

Final answer, if you want mods now then Oldrim. If you are willing to wait, SE.

I have several hundred Oldrim mods, many of which are no longer on nexus or the net.. So It may come down to what you have on a back up drive. There are a couple things(minor) I didn't like about SE, so I removed it from my PC.

Run both.

There are enough game play mods on SE to have lots of fun. All my favorite ones anyway.

Use the old game as a show piece. Think of it as a collectable showcase.

That is my plan when I resurrect my old 255 plus modded game.

Which is better if I want to mod it out? Are most of the good mods available on the SE?

Same. I was torn between the two, until Bruma came out. The rest of the Beyond Skyrim series will be SE only, so if the future is any concern, I'd say go SE. Eventually skse and others will be around anyways.
