SKSE Install Issues

Recommended Posts

So a while back I uninstalled Skyrim because I wasn't playing it. I recently got back into it and wanted to reinstall the old mods I had, many of which require SKSE. Every time I try to install it, the install doesn't do it right. I tried changing to the folder it went to and it didn't do any better. Whenever it's installed it says it's done, but nothing shows up in the data folder. Could anyone help?

I always install system mods manually (not with manager).

Just unzip the install.exe and follow the readme in SKSE.

BTW: This should be the first to install if you want to play modded, no matter if "required" or not.

Edit: the SKSE/plugins folder is used by mem patch, get that also & read S.T.E.P.

The paths of @Shadebladey are correct, SKSE is an .exe and 2 .dll ! Ingame you see the Game and SKSE version in the menue screen.

Dont forget a shortcut to skse.exe - the only exe you need from now.

If you have it solved already, please tell us and other users what it was.

SKSE is not a mod, it's a dll injector to replace the normal game loader.

So don't expect it to show up in a mod manager (which I never use, anyway).

To load the game, it's not supposed to be in DATA, the files you need should be in:

...Steam\SteamApps\Common\Skyrim

skse_loader.exe

skse_1_9_32.dll

skse_steam_loader.dll

These are the ones I use for Legendary Edition, as I have not updated to SE yet.

Make sure you have the latest version which is compatible with the Skyrim version you are running, and either manually install it (I manually install everything, as I like to know what I am doing and don't trust software to do it for me).

Or use the self-extracting exe to install into a separate folder and then copy/paste them in, if you are having trouble.

Although, the self-extracting, self-installing exe always works in my experience, although the readme.txt could be a little clearer.

If you have installed Skyrim somewhere unusual, like G:\OopsOhLordy\TESGames, the installer should still let you tell it where to go.

The SKSE folder in

...Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim\Data\SKSE\Plugins

has other, mod author/developer stuff not necessarily needed by most users.
