Recommended Posts

Ok, well I got this game in March 2008, I installed it and it installed great. But when I press "Play" The black comes up in the Top Left Hand Corner of my Screen, then it waits, then an Microsoft Error Message comes up and says Oblivion has incountered an Error and needs to shutdown. So I send the report and poo all happens. So I uninstall the game installed it again, and the same thing happend. So ever since March 28, 2008 I havn't tryed to install the game again. I want to play this game bad because I saw awesome mods and videos on it... Please some one help me out on this

Thanks!

If the game crashes immediately upon trying to boot, there is a high chance that your system does not meet the requirements to run the game. Tell me the specs on your PC (how much RAM, type of CPU and video card).

I agree, it sounds like you have incompatibilty issues. whats your video card? how much ram do you have? Whats your processor? cant help you if we dont know these things.

Click on run and type in dxdiag and it will make a document called dxdiag, most likely you will find it in your document folder. Then when you reply here attach it to your post. it will say attachment on the bottom right side of the page. Do that and we can help you.

WoogieMonster and einhander can be right and hardware not meeting the requirements being the problem, and placing your basic specs will help a lot, the more important being Video card, CPU and RAM amount. And if you are using XP or Vista.

But, there is something will can try for now (maybe something got wrong at your first attempt to start the game) so, copy the Oblivion_Defaults.ini file from the folder you installed the game to C:\My Documents\My Games\Oblivion (or the similar you have there)

rename the Oblivion.ini file you will find there to Oblivion.inibackup (just any name is fine) and rename the copied file to Oblivion.ini and try again starting the game.

good luck

Edit: this is valid even if you reinstalled the game, indeed it is specially valid in this case, as the reinstallation will keep the old Oblivion.ini

You didn't post your video card, the most critical component to this game. Some Intel based ones aren't supported nor as minimal. with this setup, you would not run at high sets, but if your Video card is at least at minimal you should be able to at least initiate the game.

Have you tried the Oblivion.ini thing I said my last reply?

I checked out the specs on this computer. It is definitely not a gaming rig. It can barely run the basic office programs needed for a business. It will do Ok for word processing and general web surfing, but will drag on video downloads. The audio is built in and will steal from what little RAM is available. The video is a 4x agp board - no specs beyond that listed, The power supply is the real bad news - 250 watts. Not enough to power a decent Video card.

You might try looking for a program called oldblivion, it is supposed to be able to run Oblivion on less than optimal systems, but you will still need more RAM.
