Lisnpuppy
OP: Uploading original game files as you have requested is not permitted. As such no one can give these to you and we request that you do not ask again for the files. If you own the game and have the access to redownload it then I suggest you do so. Someone could possibly show you where the files would be located (the file structure in the BSA) so that you can simply extract the ones you need to a safe place and put them back in your game. It would seem unless you replaced the files in the BSA you could recover them from the BSA archive by extracting the needed files. If not then you are going to have to reinstall your game. Discussing obtaining or use of pirated content is also against the rules of the site. Good luck to you.~Lisnpuppy

Good luck to you.~Lisnpuppy To suggest that I'm somehow trying to 'steal' the game, or use or acquire pirated content (or encouraging users to do such) is not only ignorant, its frankly insulting. I own the game, and I can show you my steam account if you're interested. Maybe we can play some cs:go while we're at it? I'm asking for a solution that solves a problem that would take me (up to 4 or 5 hours) to limit it down to 10 minutes, and I've already explained why in detail why that's the case (let me remind you, a problem unique to someone actually owning the game through legal means). It's an entirely reasonable request, especially considering this is a website dedicated to the editing, trading and modifying original game files. As well, its a problem that occurred due to my negligence while installing a mod hosted on your website. To think that would go against rules and that somehow, there's a lawyer out there ready to mail (do people still do that?) a cease and desist order because I asked for a few files (which apparently aren't even needed to run the game) seems to show a complete lack of common sense and understanding. For god's sake, I'm not asking nexus to host the entire oblivion game and all its DLC's on the website. I'm not even asking for the .exe file. I'm not asking anyone to steal anything, either. I even found one small quick example of an original game file uploaded to the nexus mod site. And consider it can be argued without that file you can't even run the game. And, I'm only asking for a privately shared link download link between two legal owners of the game! (Wait- do you own the game legally? If not- please ignore the request for the files) All of what I've written above is what makes your response so infuriating (and why I've managed to, honestly, waste a lot of time writing this). What should be a no-brainer non-issue is unfairly cast as somehow malicious and illegal, and god forbid, unethical!Anyways, I've stated my piece, and I won't ask anymore for anyone to send me the files through PM. I appreciate your interest in the thread, and I'll keep in mind these rules rules next time I need to post, which, frankly, I hope doesn't happen soon. (Nobody wants technical issues!) It would however, have been nice, if you explained that procedure to me that you mentioned, then perhaps I might have a bit more luck. And if I still need to mention it, please don't bother responding if you're not looking to help. DoctorKaizeld
Wow you are ignorant of this subject... I'll just let a mod explain it.
Lisnpuppy
It is a non-issue. Bethesda does not allow their direct content to be uploaded in such a manner. As such it is against their rules and ours. I did not accuse you of stealing. In fact I tried to help you by assuming that you had purchased the game and had a way to re-download it. YOU stated (and the red text is mine to show the referenced text) <snip>Appreciate the responses. The short answer to my questions seem to be that I actually do not need those files. However, there were at least 22, maybe 30 of those 'gps co-ordinates' files. I would still greatly appreciate it if someone could send me those vanilla files, I'm a bit of a perfectionist, and well, I guess if I don't get a response in the next day or so I'll just have to comepletely redownload oblivion (or perhaps i'll just grab a pirated version online - a lot easier than going through steam.) I also was wondering about the LOD generator. I'm wondering too, if - the mods I've installed came with LOD files - and perhaps I may have deleted those?I think I will reinstall some of my texture mods - grass overhaul, natural environments (oh wait, i did reinstall that) and maybe qarls texture mod. (I only have about 6 mods, just to make the game look a bit better, the basics, you know)Do you or anyone else know if these mods install LOD/generated files? (grass overhaul, natural environments qarls texture mod.) I do remember some 'popups' with the trees - going from certain trees to somewhat totally different trees (different size, colors). Is it possible this could be related to my issue? Or is this just an issue of me perhaps needing that LOD generator tool. Thanks again So you discussed getting files of a pirated copy. That is a no-no here regardless of if you own the game or not. No legal action from The Nexus is mentioned so I am not sure why you even brought that up. One can however, face moderation for these things here should you continue to ask for vanilla files or to discuss getting files from a pirated site. Perhaps it is annoying. I can not count the times I had to redownload and install games when I screwed something up. You should always make backups of files before you modify them. As Madcat said most of us will copy the BSA files or vanilla files and hold them safe should something go belly up. Many people have tried to help but for whatever reason your files are missing, it may be the only choice you have is to redownload from Steam or try to verify the file integrity (which may or may not help this issue or it may cause others.) Modding games is not for the faint of heart. Bad things sometimes happen. But in this Bethesda calls the shots. We are not allowed to let people ask for and/or receive straight vanilla assets. This is how it has always been so I doubt Beth will change their minds anytime soon. I do not have Oblivion installed vanilla currently so I do not remember where the LOD files are, if they are in BSA or are loose. I do believe they are in the BSA archives (i would bet on it anyway.) If I had Oblivion currently I would be glad to help find them. You can obtain an extractor program (many mod managers have this feature) and unpack the BSA files onto your desktop and see if you can find the missing files and reinstall them. You can try to verify your cache in Steam or you can re-install the game. People here would be glad to help you find the files placements of what you need (if possible), explain extracting BSA files and etc. They will not however, be giving you the vanilla files. If you know the specific files names's then more help can be provided to you. If you are unsure of the names or how many you have missing then it will be difficult to help. At such a time re-instillation would be the best option, as annoying as it may be. No one is trying to make your life difficult. We don't allow the sharing of straight vanilla assets from one member to another. Period. Doesn't matter who, how many files or the circumstance in which they were lost. Some further explanation about the sites anti-piracy views written by the site owner is here: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/293557-piracy-and-you/ Should you have issue with the rules of the site or any moderator's post please use the "Contact Us" button on the bottom of the main forum page to contact Dark0ne (Robin Scott.) And when I wished you good luck I meant it. I know how frustrating these situations can be. All I can do is 1) my job here 2) try to point you in the proper direction and 3) commiserate with you if all else fails, you have to re-install your game. Thank you. ~Lisnpuppy
chipperborn
thank you, and i appreciate your help, response is appreciated. While I disagree with the rules and perhaps your interpretation that doesnt change them. Again thank you very much. chipperborn
found the files; turns out they were part of a mod - not existing, original vanilla oblivion files. They were part of the improved grass textures mod. Can't honestly say how much good they do me considering I have an old gfx card and high resolution distant files don't even provide any graphic improvement at the resolution im playing at. Thanks again, i will check out the mod suggested in the thread though.
