td998
It played fine until yesterday when I started fighting some ghouls. It kept freezing when they reached striking distance. I avoided the issue by just killing them before they could reach me, but since then, my game has frequently been freezing during combat. I find myself racing to kill the enemies before the game freezes, which seems to be inevitable now. It's most common when fighting raiders but also happened when I was fighting radscorpions. I have to force shut down my computer everytime it happens. I looked up the issue and found this solution: Sounds like the Fallout 3 multi core bug, the most common cause of Fallout 3 freezing.Fallout 3 has trouble with multi core computers, mainly with ones that have more than two cores & use hyperthreading. So if your computer is a multi core this is likely your trouble. There is a fix, you need to edit your Fallout 3 .ini file. The one you want to change is:For XP:My Documents\My Games\Fallout3\For Vista & Win7:Documents\My Games\Fallout3The file you want will be called:FALLOUT.iniOpen the .ini with Notepad & change this line:bUseThreadedAI=0to:bUseThreadedAI=1& insert this line under it:iNumHWThreads=2Save & close your ini.Hope this helps!Prensa---I did that and there's been no change. I also installed the unofficial patch. The problem persists. I have no other mods installed. Edit: I have verified the integrity of the game files as well. Also, it seems to happen the most often when underground and when I use a laser pistol, although it could just be coincidence. The computer I am using is a Dell Inspiron 7000 series. It's not actually mine, since mine is broken. Fallout 3 is one of the few games I own that runs well on this computer so I'm very disappointed that I'm having such a major issue :/---LaptopWindows 10 ProProcessor: Intel® Core i5-6300HQ CPU @ 2.30GHz 2.30 GHzInstalled memory (RAM): 8.00 GB (7.88 GB usable)System type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor Edited July 4, 2017 by td998

M48A5
You did not mention what GPU the laptop has. Since you are running the game under Steam, I am going to guess that it is installed in the default location in the "Program Files" folder. This is one of the worst install locations. There are instructions on Steam on how to move the Steam folder and all your games to another location.
td998
GPU? I don't know is that the graphics card? I just play games on the computer I don't look at specs or know any of that stuff. Like I said, this isn't even mine. It says on this sticker "Discrete Graphics 4GB vRAM" is that what you're looking for? I'm not interested in messing with the Steam folder location. Fallout 3 worked fine for me before on more than one computer with the Steam folder in its default location. If that's the issue, I'll just have to deal with it or stop playing. Deleted1205226User
Provide all the info needed to help.Make the changes that are neccessary. Or (and I quote you) "deal with it or stop playing." Also, bumping is frown in these forums.
td998
1.) I've provided the info I thought was needed- no one specifically told me what info I need to provide that I haven't provided.2.) No one has told me what changes were needed, only some issue about folder destinations that likely has nothing to do with my actual issue considering I've never had this problem before I used this particular computer. I'm not going to change my entire folder layout based on some possibility without any actual reason. Necessary changes are only necessary when they're a tangible solution to a problem.3.) How am I supposed to find an answer to this issue then? Create a new topic any time the people lose interest? This is supposed to be a help forum, but people aren't really helping. I came here asking for help about my issue, this is not what I expected. I followed the instructions on the "How to ask for help" page to the best of my ability and it said that any extra information needed would be asked for and instructions on how to obtain such information would also be provided. How am I supposed to provide information that isn't specifically asked for? I don't have much experience with computers, I just want my game to stop freezing, and no one seems at all interested. Deleted1205226User
1) In the link provided by M48A5, you are asked to give your load order. I don't see it. 2) In the many problem that can occur in a modded game, the installation it in program files is the first one that appears. So, like everyone asking for help you've been advised to change the game location. Everything works till it breaks. The fact that you never had this problem before doesn't mean anything. Also you didn't mention any change you could have made that could explain the appearing problem (adding a mod, removing a mod, updating driver, updating OS, etc)Every system is different, there's no one fits all solution. So it is logical to start with the most commonly known problem and go from there on step at the time.Troubleshooting can be a very long process. 3) You are asking for help in a not very active forum, you shouldn't expect an instantaneous response. Asking for help doesn't grant you an answer at all, actually. But if you are asking for help, while not being very experimented with computer and dismissing the solution offered to you at the same time, people might loose interest in helping you. If you prefer to be autonomous, please look at http://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Fallout_NV_Mod_Conflict_TroubleshootingWhile being written for New Vegas, 95% of the solutions apply to FO3. Good luck.
BlackRampage
Right. Let's see if we can shed some light here; Combining the specs and make/model of the laptop you've provided you appear to have the following laptop: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-15-6-Inch-Quad-Core-i5-6300HQ-Processor/dp/B015PYYDMQ Specs of your graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4GB GDDR5. Theoretically, that should be more then enough to run Fallout 3, but I think we all know better by now. Especially when using mods. Are you? If so, which ones? Are you using a mod manager? If so, which one? Also, seeing as you're using Win 10, try the solution posted in this thread: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/4962915-proper-windows-10-crash-fix/
