MOD Idea: Multi-Character World

So, I don't even know if this is possible, but after looking at my wide variety of characters, I thought it would be cool if there were a mod that makes the world static for all characters. In other words, if one character completes a given quest, no other characters (within the same "world") would be able to complete that quest. It would even be cool if the character that completes the quest is recorded, and the NPCs would talk about those different characters. (i.e. "Did you hear about the Dunmer that saved Kvatch?")

While dungeons and loot would remain dependent upon each individual character (i.e. an dungeon emptied by one would not be empty when the other plays), it would be cool if items sold to shops by one character were available for purchase by another character.

Somehow, the mod would have to refer to a .ini file (or something similar) to track all global variables. I haven't really modded Oblivion myself, so I don't really know whether or not this is even possible. Perhaps it would need a background application to catch and apply changes.

Just a thought.

This would be complicated, Indeed are global variables that control things between sections and savegames, but not at character level, All references to the PC are just 'player'. Extending this capacity to treat 'players' as being individual references is not intuitive and near impossible to be made retroactive.

And as it is now, except for Quest items, the dungeons of all types respawns at prefixed times, they refuses to being 'cleared'. Your idea at least don't fall in that category of 'unthought' or just kid fantasy. Maybe it can be the start point to several others. Good Luck.

It's essentially impossible as all variables, quests, and such are contained within the saves, information from one save cannot impact another save. The only way something close could be done is if someone went through each quest, and modded it so that it was already in its complete state... Which would probably have some significant consistancy issues, and ruin many aspects of the game in the process.

I was thinking about this a bit more and I decided it would definitely have to be a background application (or a server similar to the multi-player mod) that keeps track of all the changes to make the world static. All the quests would have to be modified so no rewards would be given for completing that quest, and the application would have to control any quest rewards.

But some other features that would be cool (granted, it is not likely this mod will ever be made, but they'd still be cool) is if all the characters were always in the world. You would control only one character at any time, but each of your other characters would be a CM Partner that would have his/her own schedule and act accordingly but could join the current character. Also, the NPCs could begin talking about the other characters. "Did you hear that the Mage's Guild has a new leader? She's a Breton named Silvinia."

Also, it would be good if the mod kept the world at a static player level. Otherwise, a high-level character could enter a cave, clear everything, and have a low-level character recover the loot. Plus, if it was a form of companion mod, the high-level character could just share loot with the other characters.

Right now, I just "pretend" my characters are part of the same world, trying not to do the same quest twice. However, it would be cool if I didn't have to pretend. But like it's been said, there's not a very good chance of this even being possible. I'll have to look at the scripting language to see if I can figure anything out. If I find some time...
