@BlackRampage He's not missing a d3d9.dll file, that file is used to manipulate the game's graphics when placed in the same directory as the .exe (I use ENB to boost Skyrim's performance). As far as I understand, some of them take the role of your graphics card in the game launcher (meaning that in the launcher, under Graphics Adapter there will be ENB instead of your graphics card) and people like Dimensionist use them often to bypass internal graphics by fooling the game into believeing ENB is an external card.

The method however isn't very succesful, since the card wasn't made to run the game there's bound to be problems (CTD's, freezing, corrupted saves, etc.) and that is if you actually manage to run the game. Basically, even if you get to play the game it's going to have all sorts of random issues that will make it unplayable.

Yes I know he isn't missing it. What I tried to point out is that the file should normally be in the system32 directory, not in the Fo3 directory. Doing so anyway will indeed lead to the problems you pointed out.

It's more like a "general pointer" I guess, since many still download such files. (Especially when trying to get the GECK to work.)

Okay, yeah - the d3d9.dll file addition method worked. Perfectly, at that - I've been playing for some time, and I've yet to see any problems.

Given how the file was linked by a member of this site in a thread in this sub forum itself (the title was something like 'Brand new game install', and the link was provided by eric31415), and that the general problems really don't apply (namely, it's not a virus, it's not a bandage for a larger problem, it's not from a dll download site, and it's MEANT to be outdated), I feel comfortable linking it here as a possible solution to the problem.

NOTE** This does NOT mean that I consider this perfectly safe, nor am I guaranteeing it's authenticity. I'm simply saying that this COULD work, and if you're frustrated enough (or desperate enough), you might as well try it out. You do so at your own risk, however - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Here: d3d9.dll
