LHammonds
FYI - This was the 1st case I had ever issued an insta-ban for a comment. As Buddah has pointed out, the forums where members communicate and have discussions are allowed quite a bit more slack. I've "tried" to use the same set of rules on the comments for uploaded files but there is a difference in the mentality of posters there than on the forums...many don't even visit the forums and only ever make comments on the uploaded files. If it's one thing I've noticed and learned in the short time I've been a moderator is that if somebody joins the forums and their first posts are breaking the rules, they are likely to continue. Why? Because they did not read or understand the Terms of Service when the just signed up and it's quite likely they signed up primarily to make that statement. I've also seen people create multiple accounts in order to down-rate other mods and try to artificially inflate their own. The latest example was just today that somebody got their account stuck into a "suspect" group because they were trying to artificially inflate download counts by downloading the same file over 50 times. I believe in giving people second chances and the strike system allows for 3 with a possibility of 4 chances if a warning is issued. People make mistakes and I like to give them opportunities to calm down and get a clear head which is sometimes impossible in the heat of the moment. But if your very 1st post is an attack on a modder, don't expect a 2nd chance by me anymore. I will consult with the rest of the staff regarding how we should handle those that attack modders and other members on this site. I've also suggested an addition to the Rules page about Constructive Criticism. LHammonds
IndorilTheGreat
Hey, I've got a great new idea for the Strike System: 1st Strike and you're banned for a day (a full 24 hours). 2nd Strike and you're banned for a week (7 days). 3rd Strike and you're gone for good. Well, what do you think? It would teach people not to flame and attack modders and other members. It was also the same rules for my Swim Team. It worked quite well if you ask me... ;)
leeus
Hi budah, hi everyone: Needless to say I'm also saddened about she leaving upset. As many have said, the only thing that matters now is that she could be happy and take a break from public exposure. I didn't used nor known all her mods, but for the few I do use, I just love them. I think that she's a very talented artist, and a great person. One of the Masters of the craft, and she deserves all the respect and love we can give her. And the only wish I have is that she could be at peace and forget everything about the nasty individuals that caused this over the years. <snip>As I have stated many times, if you have nothing positive or constructive to add to the discussion, then please don't post.<snip> Maybe those words should be shown in red bold letters at the top of the comment entry page, and also in the rating entry page. I'd add a word warning about the Insta-Ban if that's not respected. That'd put the 'passer-by' types on alert, I think. Also, w.r.t why so few reports, I think that after the site re-design, when the separated tabs for description, file, comment, etc. many people, who might be willing to report a bad post now do not access the comment sections like they were before. Unless they are having troubles, or some specific issue. I think that at least the last five comments should be made visible on-sight at the main mod page. So, every time one enters a mod page there has a change that you can spot a bad comment, or at least be lured to the comment sections after reading some interesting thing in other of the comments there. That's just my tiny $0.002. Best of regards to everyone, leandro
dyfed99
Hey, I've got a great new idea for the Strike System: 1st Strike and you're banned for a day (a full 24 hours). 2nd Strike and you're banned for a week (7 days). 3rd Strike and you're gone for good.I think there are cases where the insta-ban is ways better, or rather a necessity! Your idea could be good, but just for 'normal' users. However anyone is supposed not to start a flame war in his first post! Theoretically he has to make a 'welcome' thread in the right form! That was my point. If a user posts a bad comment as their first, the Insta-Ban should be used, but with a word of warning before hand.
DarkWarrior45
Well, I too believe that it may be necessary to become stricter in regards to moderating the comments. Alienslof is a veteran modder, and a comment from a member such as that is completely uncalled for. It is my gut feeling that the person who made the creativity comment created a new account just to mask his/her real screen name. I hope they were dump enough to use the same email or IP address on that fake account. It's a shame to see Alienslof make such a decision, but I think it is called for. And I respect that decision. .~DW
SnowyOwlet
Sadly, this sort of behavior is pretty much unique to the internet. The anonymity brings out the worst in some people. I have used some of Slofs mods since the first week I played Oblivion. There is a wide range of them, from beautiful horses right over to the sexiest male outfits imaginable. I may not love every item she has made, but there are plenty from which to choose and that includes a good number of those gorgeous male outfits! It is shame on us all that so many people think it's fine to slander and maul other people. We are failing as a society when we allow the rudeness and callousness to go unpunished. Slof, your title as one of the Finest Modders for Oblivion is well earned.
Sarya
How about an idea of blocking flamer's ability to leave comments or rate, instead of temporary/permanent ban? That would lessen his possible need to create a new profile, but would effectively stop inadequate behavior with his current one.
Tamujiin
I am going to say one thing, and one thing only. This is to those kids that think gaming is only for 10-17 year olds. I grew up with the Nintendo. the original nintendo. I grew up with the sega genisis, super nintendo, turbo graphix 16, Atari Jaguar, Playstation 1. if you little punks think that gaming is only for kids, you got another thing coming. if it wasn't for us adults out there that supported the gaming community when we were kids, begging our parents for the next super mario brothers, or the next castlvania, or contra, you little dudes who think you are badaas gamers wouldn't have anything. Respect your elders, respect those who create the things you play. Who the hell do you think makes these games? 14 year olds? 18 year olds? No we adults do. And we always will because it is a form of employment and or enjoyment. I say the gaming inudstry in 20 years will well surpass the "hollywood" industry. And in saying that alot more Adult games will be out there, you little dudes gonna say this is gay or that is gay? No your gonna love it, because it is the next badass thing out there. And yet you little punks belive now you have a say in things. you might. you may very well do. But not for long. Only time is on your side. I didnt love all of alienslofs work either. but i loved a majority of it. And little flamers who think they have a say in things? boy kiddos, you have another thing coming! I remeber how "hard" the original super mario brothers was. Took me a few months to get to bowser. Now i could do it in a half hour fifteen minutes. With that being said, do you little dumbass flamers know what it took alienslof to make just a one mod? There is more kilobytes in 1 finger of slofs mods than there is in the entire Nintendo game selection. More kilobytes in an arm than the entire Sega genisis, super nintedo, and turbo graphix 16 combined. And yet you have the ghast to judge her because of a little male pajog? Whats the difference between showing a womans jeed than a mans pajog? It urks me that "kids" have this power to make such a talented artist quit do, to a an immature mind. I hope Alienslof posts something here. at least i hope she reads what we wrote for her. Dont give into the immature "kids" out there slof. You have a good following. And also i havent downloaded your horse mod yet. I was going to but i read the damn thread in a mod suntiger made ( slofs beefcake armor ,and it pissed me off royaly) . and i downloaded most of what had your name on it because i figured it would be good, if not all of it, something in it would. and it was. with that said i hope, i inside me i know, she needs a break, butshe will return. And i hope thedarkone figures out a way to stop these kids from flaming, He has my support, as does slof and all those great modders out there that make oblivion what it can be. one of the best games to play. period. ( forgive me for ranting on. they had a live band at the bar tonight, it was great, buti still mean what i say.)

Well, what do you think? It would teach people not to flame and attack modders and other members. It was also the same rules for my Swim Team. It worked quite well if you ask me... ;) As far as regular members regulating other members, this would only lead to undesired results. On the other hand a negative karma type system could be a useful tool in determining what action to take regarding punishment for one's actions. Call it a member strike system, just like kudos you would only be able to give one to each member and accumulated strikes would be visible only to moderators. That is the only purpose and implementation I can think of and really, with the report system being like LH said, a "jerk alert" all that other stuff is quite unnecessary. The Dark0ne's discretion is the only one in play concerning those matters and from time to time you will see him exercise it by issuing a posting ban rather than a complete ban. The only people that receive that kind of leniency however have made moderate to significant contribution to this forum. If you have made no contribution and your first remark or the majority of your remarks are less than contributory then you can not expect to be treated with respect. Like I have said previously, You have to give respect to get respect. And on that note, I did not think it possible to think more highly of this site and it's moderators but low and behold, you have risen even higher. Kudos to you Dark0ne, Lhammonds and Buddah for setting the bar higher and demanding more from the members of this community. As the largest TES mod site ever you are in a position to lead the masses in the right direction and I am proud to see you exploiting that power for the greater good. Though I do think this site could use at least one more moderator, I do not think that it is at all on the wrong path. In fact I think it will be around for a long time to come and I intend to support it and it's members in molding this community into something that will endure for many years and that we can all be proud of. Love and Respect to AlienSlof, Thank You For All That You Do! Long Live TES Community and Long Live TES Nexus
