We need a little information to diagnose your problem. Which version of Oblivion are you using? Do you have Shivering Isles? What patch(s) do you have installed? Have you done anything with the ini file? What mods are you running? A mod list and load order would help. Do you use OBMM, OBSE or Wrye Bash?

 

Then, what controls are you trying to change, from what and to what?

What you mean by controls? the slid buttons of graphics, sounds etc? or are the controls like assign keys to movement, actions and such?

If so, have you a Joystick or joypad attached? are you trying to change buttons?

Vista 64bit home premium. Running OBSE too, but no Wrye Bash. Latest version of Oblivion, not the game of the year edition. I usually try changing around sneak, journal, cast run, jump, grab, ready weapon and sometimes just scroll down a bit, and end up getting a BSD. Yes, a freaking BSD. I know it isn't my GPU. I run Oblivion on low settings and it has handled far worse in C&C3 without any crashes at all. My cooling is excellent, I have two 25cm side fans, one 12cm front fan, and one 12cm exhaust rear fan. I also tried opening all the windows to get a lot of clean and cool air in my room but that didn't help so the fault lies with Oblivion. Sometimes I get a CTD instead of a BSD.

Which changes some of the functions of the moving keys (I use WASD) but that doesn't have anything to do with ready weapon, sneak, etc. I also disabled and deleted that mod but I still have trouble. I also tried deleting my .ini file several times and change around stuff in the Oblivion launcher but it didn't make a difference. I use a wireless keyboard and mouse, no joystick or control. I ocasionally enable godmode and use the purge cell buffer command but I don't think that could be source of my problems.....

 

My problems began while I was power levelling against my summoned skeleton in the waterfront. My games are usually very stable, but stuff began slowing down a bit. I tried saving and BAM!!! CTD. My save file was corrupt so I decided to delete that and reload from an earlier point. I still had problems with corruption so I just deleted all my saves and started anew. The corruption problems are completely gone now it seems, al though I have only saved a few times so far. Still, trying to reconfigure my controls gives me BSDs.

Although Wrye Bash doesn't run together with the game, it is 'obligatory' to even try uniting some of those highly conflicting mods at your load list... First of all I suggest, based in that load list, you including FCOM, and most than all other things, follow at the letter the load order. Just seeing this your load order list gave me the creeps, you have there so many conflict sources and the order is not even near the correct one. To be able to just run this setup you will need FCOM, and I repeat, you will need to bash patch those mods, and above all you will have to place then in the correct order.

Ugh, FCOM? This is getting complicated. Well, can you list the top 5 mod conflicts then? And honestly, I really haven't had much trouble till now. I rarely get crashes, and I got a rogue to level 8 before I made my High Elf mage which startedt his mess so I have played with it for a while. This load order should be 'mostly' correct according to ballofflames website too.

I really didn't see much wrong with the mods or load order. There are a few I don't recognize though. It's a long list - I didn't count them, how close are you to the 255 limit?

 

Have you checked the batteries in your keyboard and mouse? Its a longshot but a weak battery could possibly send the wrong scan code.

 

Worst case you may have to reinstall. If you need it, I have a tutorial on reinstalling to a clean game without loosing your mods or saved games.

BSOD is not necessarily caused by mods and windows is not good in giving informative answers to the reason of troubles...

about the load order, there are in yours, somethings that can't be considered simple, there are at least some known problems source if not tightly controlled, among then Supreme Magicka and Kvatch Rebuilt. About this last, I don't know its current stats but until recently it was reported as cause of CTDs and so maybe the BSOD. But this is something I can't grant for sure, and The people making it are serious modders and no doubts all initial issues will or even are already solved.

 

But... look at the end of the load order you posted the link... where is said about the merged leveled lists... this is the same as saying the Bashed patches I mentioned before.

 

By the single presence of MMM and Francescos, FCOM seems well advised... with it you can even place OOO too, so to enhance yet more the gaming experience.

 

about the patches, the better advice is placing then immediately after the ESPs they fix (except the bashed patch, this one is better being the last mod ever, unless some other explicitly stats needing to be placed after it).

170 mods, + non esp stuff like better rextextured orcs, improved facial textures for argonians, crystal glass armor, etc. Anyway, that guide sounds good, can you post a link? I will also try replacing my batteries. If non of that works I could always just reformat + reinstall.
