i am pretty new to modding, but doesn't the NMM let you customize load order? or is BOSS still better for that?

Just had to note this...

 

All of the advice I've read about taking your time when modding is truly useful information in and of itself. One by one, step by step, to the T.

 

Download, install, Loot, clean, test, rinse, repeat.

 

Painstakingly read every last bit of information every single mod give you. I'm running 114 mods, not sure if that's quite a bit; but I'll have a ctd once in a blue moon. (quite literally two ctd on current build and load order) But through this, I can say I've learned a lesson from both the information given by you, whomever the professional modders may be; by taking in subjective experience on the matter, being able to learn about some rather basic coding and tampering with .ini files and the such. I'm not computer savvy, but really taking into account all the wonderful information here on the Nexus, I just have to thank those who have taken their precious time to provide all this useful information (and mods) for us all to take into account.

My advice is to not use BOSS or LOOT for ordering your mods.

 

i have had experience in using both of these auto-sorters, and they will break your "Perk-trees" which are governed by your mod order list. A prime example is that i had Vile Concoctions being overwritten by Empowered Magic.

 

Another example is if you are running multiple creature encounter mods, which add/edit spawn points in Skyrim. In this scenario i had nothing but deer spawns after using the auto-sorters.

 

Using these auto-sorters will break your tried and tested mod order.

Best to use some common sense, and use TES5Edit to check where conflicts are occurring, so you can adjust them by yourself.

 

(my hopes were up when the new Loot came out, but much to my dismay)

So, is there a better load order out there anywhere, or better yet, what is the best load order plugin to use right now? Reading what wrinklyninja posted about plugins being in alphabetical order, none of mine are in alphabetical order and they all work for me. I just have to figure out which ones are breaking my quests that I can't start, like the thief guild quest and taking over as the gourmet.

You can also change your load order very easily with Mod Organizer.
