coggnic
Recently when I downloaded Bruma, it didn't work at all, some custom textures like plants and the ogre weren't there and it would crash before I got near it. I looked up the problem and I found that NMM doesn't do well with big mods, so I downloaded it manually and it worked, not only that but some other mods such as Skall Manor and Holds the city overhaul, worked after manual installation. So, my question is, are there "characteristics" of certain mods that would warrant manual installation rather then using NMM, such as size and compatibility. BaguetteModding
Hello ! Most of the time, if this problem happens, it's because either the installer for NMM is 'badly' written, or the folder structure of the mod is 'badly' managed. What I would recommend you is either install all your mods by hand (you have full control of what you do, but it's longer and harder), or switch to ModOrganizer. [i'm writting a guide on using MO over NMM, will be out soon !] ModOrganizer will tell you if the folder structure is bad, and therfore you can remedy to this ! Happy modding,-T
jones177
Hi Installing large or lots of mods can make NMM choke.NMM never gave me a problem when adding 2 or 3 mods at a time. It is when I am rebuilding a game adding many mods that it chokes. With esp only mods it is fine & I have never had a problem with follower/armour mods either. On large mods I reboot & install just the large mod. Then after reading the XML file (if there is one) I install manually over the NMM install. With fallout 4 I install everything manually. It is a better experience. If I have to reinstall this game I will go back to manual as well. Modding games is my hobby, not managing mod managers. Later
LeddBate
Another advantage to downloading mods manually is that you always have the mods available on your drive so that if a mod author decides to take down their mod (because, oh say, they didn't like who got elected) -you still have it archived on your HD and can re-add it anytime you want.
