kvngreeley
Hi, everyone. I am not new to Morrowind, but I am brand new to using mods. Please forgive me if this is a dumb question. When adding a new mod using NMM, is there is a message about a filing existing with the same name from a previous mod, and it asks about replacing, does it matter if I say yes or no to all? After I add mods, I use Wyre Mash and mlox to help sort out any problems, if that makes a difference. Also, after adding a bunch of mods, I have a lot of folders in my data files folder. I noticed that there are meshes and similar stuff inside other folders besides my default meshes folder. Is that ok? Will the game still know to look in the other folders and sub folders to find the needed files? Thanks for helping me understand this!
WastelandAssassin
not sure about modding Morrowind , but if it's similar to modding Fallout or the newer Elder Scrolls games , then I'll give you the following answer first , when you are prompted that files already exist and you try to replace them , this is the same as replacing files on your computerso basically , if you install two mods and allow the second to overwrite the first , you'll see the effect from the second mod where the conflict wasto explain , say you install two texture mods , and you overwrite the first with the second , you'll see the textures from the second modyou need to decide for yourself which mod should overwrite which , unless instructed specifically in a mod's pageI would suggest trying to see if Mod Organizer works for Morrowind , as it will save you a lot of headache when installing mods that overwrite others as for folder structure , all of the contents of the mods you use should go into the folders of the gameso all the meshes should go under the appropriate folder , and so onsome mods give you the folders inside different folders (like 'Mod Name' that has 'Data' inside it , and in it you find 'Meshes')so you need to only take the folders that the game has , and put the contents in themif you use NMM for this , you can just repackage a mod you wish to use , where it has the correct folder structure (basically , unpack the archive , take the Data folder , and pack in into an archive , then install it) there are plenty of tutorials on modding for beginners online , you should try to find one that fits your liking (a written tutorial or a video series) , and follow itand I really do recommend you try Mod Organizer , it might be more difficult at first , but should really help you in the long run
kvngreeley
Thanks for your response! From the sounds of it, just letting NMM download the file and install it probably Isn't the best way to go. Now I am wondering if I need to start all over again. One thing I like about NMM is the ease of uninstalling mods. Once I merge folders, like meshes, I have no idea how to tell which files go with which mod in case I have to remove something. I will check out the organizer you mentioned and some tutorials. I thought it sounded easy through NMM until I started getting errors on loading the game and problems in testing the mods in the game. Thanks!
WastelandAssassin
no problemif you need any more help , feel free to ask and yeah , installing mods seems rather easy , and it is rather easy , until you start getting conflicts , or overwrite modsthen it becomes somewhat messy and difficult to handle , although Mod Organizer makes it much much easier
Dragon32
This is a pretty good guide - http://www.mwmythicmods.com/starting.htm However, it recommends installing into Program Files. For versions of Windows since Vista that's not recommended for Morrowind.
