Nuka world.... What was your Decision?

I my case, it depends on what character I'm playing. I'm not sure I'd call it role-playing as such, but my actions tend to follow what character I imagine I'm playing.

E.g., if I play as Frank Castle -- just saying, ex-military man, gets to watch losing his family to armed a-holes... I've heard that origin story before -- then there's no way he'd do anything except kill every single raider. Yes, Gage included. Any other course of action just wouldn't fit that character.

If I'm playing a vampire (she got bit in the neck by an elder lawyer after finishing law school; that's how bar exams work, right?) who's sided with Lorenzo for lulz, yeah, sure, why not skip Preston and do some raiding instead?

If my character is an undercover Tal-Shiar agent (Romulan military intelligence; and yeah, we're either the same or parallel universe to the ST one, thanks to that crashed shuttle) then whatever promises to get her back in touch with the Empire, really. Institute all the way. And raiders? Why not? It's as good a source of intel as any.

Etc.

The couple of times I went to Nuka World, I killerized Gage the minute I got through the Gauntlet. I have no need for stupid storylines that go against everything you've built-up until then. I keep Nuka World aside until very late in the game, first off because I have tons of extra settlements through mods and like to have 'em all functional and decently populated (got a mod that enables to have up to 500 settlers per settlement) and I also like to do Far Harbor before going to Nuka World. I have seven settlements there overall, I think, so those need attention first, too.

Nuka World's set-up is a complete waste of time, to me, so I kill everybody except the civilians/slaves and do the remaining quests as I see fit. I always seem to run into trouble at that saloon with the greenish worms in the basement. They always cause CTDs, so I stay away from there.

Besides the Red Rocket I have another two settlements at Nuka World.

I last played FO4 in May and started Mass Effect: Andromeda and am now finally tackling Skyrim SE. Will have another go at FO4 soon, so, maybe this time I'll try to follow the storyline instead of chopping Gage the minute I see him.

Take over the Institute, become the Raider warlord of Nuka-World, take over a rebuilt commonwealth with headcanon end-game being the Institute eventually takes over Nuka-World and mind controlling the raiders through Vault 88 tech. Turn Nuka-World into a fully functional city-state that focuses on technological development, terraforming the environment to it's pre-war state and building a safe place in the Commonwealth.

I've done it both ways on various playthroughs. I've led the raiders to a glorious conquest of the Commonwealth, but on different characters I've wiped them out - both the vanilla way as well as by invading Nuka-World with the Minutemen or BoS (via mod, of course). I think it's a shame, really, that Bethesda didn't give you a trader-centric way of capturing and settling the various parks if you do "Open Season" for the traders.
