REDNECKB0B
Disclaimer - while very experienced with computers I'm new to running mods with Oblivion. Computer Specs:Q9450 - quad 8 GB RAM98000 GX2Vista 64 bit, w/ SP1 I was able to run vanilla Oblivion fine before loading any mods. I loaded OOO, MMM, most of the UL mods, Living Economy 3.70, the unoffical patch w/ Hotfix, Dark Illiusion Armor, Adonnay's weapons packs, natural environments, DarkUId_DarN_1.5.5, More Immersive Sounds, and Oblivions Sound Overhaul, and Mighty Magick last week. I played for about 3 hours and decided I didnt like Mightly Magick and after researching online found my load order needed to be modified. I was using the Oblivion Script Extender v0014a and the Oblivion Mod Manager 1.1.9. I completely unistallled the game all the mods and decided to start from scratch. In addition to those listed above on the second attempt I added Tamriel Travellers, Cyrodill Transportation Network, Streamline Open Beta 3.1 (probably not necessary since I was getting great frame rates at 1600x1200 everything maxed) and Quarl Texture Pack III. The game would not launch. It would start, I'd get a black window box in the upper left part of the screen, the Bethesda Softworks spash screen would launch, I'd get about to the B showing up in the launch and then Windows would indicate there was a problem. I unistalled all the mods. Same problem. I unistalled the game and reinstalled. Launched vanilla Oblivion, same problem. I unistalled the game and reinstalled to the default location. Launched vanilla Oblivion, same problem. I've scoured the registry for all Oblivion references and cleaned all .bsa, .omod, and Qarl references I used the link to the unistall in the stickies above to check for leftover registry issues. Reinstalled to the default location. Launched vanilla Oblivion, same problem. Knowing the game worked prior to using mods, and then worked with the first set of mods, I have to believe that either Streamline or Qarl's left a permanent pointer that is still causing me problems. Short of doing a fresh OS install, I'm looking for any suggestions from the community on where to look for files now that I have unistalled again. bben46
I have a tutorial on reinstalling. It's mainly intended for beginners who have somehow screwed up so badly they need to reinstall. You are welcome to it. One problem is that the Oblivion uninstaller doesn't really uninstall everything. It leaves behind your entire data file with any problems that were there, your saved game directory- with any saved problems and your Oblivion.ini. Plus the registry stuff that you already found. Normally the registry entries don't matter as they seem to be recreated on a reinstall. My reinstall takes all except the registry entries into account - I didn't want to be responsible for some one who wasn't familiar with editing the registry making their computer un bootable. The tutorial is located here: http://thewormhole.nfshost.com/forum/index...opic,641.0.html I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks

I'll take a look thanks. No worries on the registry issues, modifying the reg is old hat for me. Its more where to look for anything left over that I might have missed since I can't think of it or don't know of it at this point.
buddah
Try deleting your ini file, sometimes that is all it takes. The one in my documents/my games the engine will create a new one when you launch.
Jesse_Dylan
Whoa, 8gb RAM? I thought the 4gb I was sitting on was a lot. Does anything even utilize 8gb? I guess it must, or you wouldn't have bothered. Streamline 3.1... I didn't realize there was a version above 3.0.
REDNECKB0B
Thanks all for the pointers to the Oblivion.ini file. That was the problem. I very much appreciate the responses.
