hey everyone.

usually, i dont have problems with oblivion, and when i do, i figure out how to fix them myself.

but i have been getting random ctd's over and over, and i cant figure out what is doing it. my load order seems perfect, and everything runs perfectly, except for the random crashing.

there is nothing out of place in my data folder.

i use wrye bash and obmm also ;)

It's called Xfire. It tracks the stats of the games you play, but it causes problems with Oblivion. I've documented it quite thoroughly and consider myself an expert on the matter (that's just bragging). Xfire can be used with Oblivion, it just requires you to take certain precautions to lower the crash rate.

Xfire also lets you chat with other Xfire users even while you're ingame, and even if you are playing different games than the people you are chatting with. It also takes screenshots, records videos, and provides free temporary chatrooms for the people on your friends list. It does other stuff too but I'm trying to answer your question without putting a commercial in your thread.

As for your original question, I'm afraid I'm lost on this one if you have not changed anything. My game tends to go through periods of extreme instability for no obvious reason, maybe this is what's happening to you.

Edit: You say that you've started a new game, are you in the sewer tutorial? You know, a lot of the larger mods do not like to be activated until you get out of there.

oh yeah, i forgot about x-fire, but no i dont have it installed on my computer anymore...

i do have ventrilo installed though, but i do not use it while playing oblivion.

nahh, i use the alt start (can NOT stand the sewer anymore lol.) i suppose it might just be something like what you get. i'll fiddle with it for a while longer, and see if anything new develops lol

Have you installed any new computer (not Oblivion) programs lately? I had a problem with a drfrag utility that was supposed to auto defrag in the background when there was nothing happening on the computer. I started getting random CTDs. It turned out the defrag program was checking to see if it was OK to run. Needless to say, that one is history.

Any program that tries to access the internet will usually cause a crash. Some other programs that try to run periodically in the background - such as an Antivirus or RAM optimizer can cause problems. There is an older HP printer driver that caused CTDs because it tries to do something totally unnecessary in the background. (HP thinks the only reason to have a computer is to feed their ink hungry printers.)

trying to help one that is far from being newbie is aways harder but happily is easier too..uhh, sounded weird?

when dealing with random issues most of common debugging techs goes down and it's time for some guesses. Yet the major flaw of Oblivion is the poor way it work memory. Even if the crashes seem random try to find some hidden pattern. happen this when you change cells somewhat often? or the inverse, tend it to be more common on interior or exterior?

Use you some performance enhancement utility, like streamline?

As I said afore it's hard to help someone that already does what is need to be done, and is easier because is not need to give cookbook recipes, just directions of something we selves would try.

sometimes purging cells from memory maybe is the problem while can be the solution in the others.

PS: Another thing that can cause strange ctds is the engine trying to address references non existent anymore. Says your savegame having something that isn't at the game anymore. Most of the times this is detected on load and eliminated, but some bypass this someway.

i have installed stuff like acidpro 2.0, and bioshock, but i wouldnt think that those would be causing it... no printers connected to my computer either :) i use my grandpa's computer for that hahaha (his computer is even better for gaming than mine lol)

it could quite possibly be that it is trying to reference some things that arent there anymore. i turned off the mod "symphony of violence"

the crashes happen inside of buildings, and usually when fighting, but sometimes when i hit a trap.

i do use streamline, but i have the "streamsave" feature turned off (that one causes quite a few crashes for me)

i will try to redo my .ini file, because it is from a few installs ago (it has worked perfectly for a while) but i should give it another shot ;)

Are you using any of the following like Musical Immersion 1.0, Atmospheric Oblivion, Streamline 3.0 or any other mods that make script alterations to environments like Supreme Magicka? Have you got Obmm and can you determine the conflictions? A report can help others to help you. Since I have a low end machine, Streamline 3.0 was a problem for me constantly, but version 3.1 works great.

...the crashes happen inside of buildings, and usually when fighting, but sometimes when i hit a trap...

So it mostly happens when there are a lot of objects onscreen or flashy effects? A lot of times, Oblivion rather than freezing or skipping like most games, will just crash if your CPU hits 100 percent. Is there anything running in your background that may be using your systems resources?
