onlyfor1downloadhere
Hi there! I have installed a load of Texture Mods or real Mods, but now I want to get more organization in this stuff. Problem: I have a fear, that if I uninstall all that Mods, I will not get every Mod back, because I did not remember tiny Mods. Can I now just install them a 2nd time via NexusManager and it replaces the old Mods automatically ? Then I'll have my Mods in that Manager and the old Mods, which I dont recognize anymore, they'll be still installed my directory and arent lost. This would be very helpful. : P
nosisab
Yes, installing mods with NMM is exactly the same thing as installing by hand. The "huge" advantage is NMM records the files it install, so if the need to remove a mod arises NMM will remove all and only the files that mod installed. Besides, your already installed mods aren't affected in any way, even those which were not installed by NMM. The main problems that could arise is for outdated mods which had the files structure changed and so, should be completely removed before an update should be installed, to this case there is no ease solution other than removing the mod by hand, or conversely, try to get that outdated version, install it just to make NMM aware of the files, disable that version and install the newest, easy as stealing candy from a child, except than the child may react :) Edited February 29, 2012 by nosisab
onlyfor1downloadhere
Hmm yeah but I did not really understand this point: NMM is also installing that Files and they must be inserted in the SAME directory, so the Files of the Installation with NMM would replace my original ones. Or to be more precise: this is even, what I WANTED ;P. Because there is no need to have that files 2x. The Problem was just: If this is NOT this way, then I'd need to delete all my Textures and Meshes myself, so I wont have them 2x if I install all those Mods with NMM. No Problem so far, but I fear that I won't remember which Mods I had in summary, maybe the most important 20, but my little Texture-Replacers would be lost, cause I cant remember everything to get it again with NMM. I hope this is more precise now : P ------------------- another Question also by the Way: Any possibility to install NMM without Service Pack 3 ?I have a lot of Programms on my PC and NONE of them require a higher Service Pack.I just installed it and it only slowered my PC-Speed terribly -.- so I did a Roll-Back and I dont really plan to get SP3 another time ;/Can't I get NMM in Conclusion ? :c
nosisab
To remove all doubts, files from mods installed by NMM go to exact same position they go when installing by hand (supposing the installation is correct, but else just doesn't work). So yes, files are overwritten in the process.Actually NMM does not need to be active/started when playing the game, more precisely it should not be active while playing, for this there is the option in it for it's "exit" as soon the game is started from it. Besides, is better idea starting the game directly by an icon at the desktop, and at this point I can say is better to start the game from skse_loader.exe and I advice it so strongly that may be useful to do so even if not using any mod depending on SKSE. The advice is because SKSE bypass totally the Steam launcher, although after the last path it is only bothersome and not load order breaking anymore. On the other hand, until the utilities that deal with load order are updated to the new format, that official launcher WILL break the load order of mods which had the changes made on them (like Wrye Bash, BOSS and NMM itself). The last point I did not touch in the previous post, mods downloaded from WS are packed as BSAs instead having the files at /data (what they now call "loose files"). This approach has the advantage of keeping the mod's files isolated and makes easy to uninstall, this would be great but in the end carries the seeds of the most hard to resolve conflicts. Having the same mod downloaded from WS and Nexus must be avoided at all cost, make sure to absolutely and completely remove one of the two versions. About NMM install, it requires only actualized version of .net framework, not the service packs specifically. Maybe the Windows itself is what requires that specific SP so to install the correct .net framework, I don't recall anymore.
