Microprocessor swap

but most of the issues with games are not the video cards, it is the hard drive bottlenecking all of the information. that is why i suggest getting some western digital "raptors," and putting them into a raid 5 configuration. it is quite fast, and you will have no problem with any game that is out! (unless you have an outdated video card and processor that is)

SGTBOB,

Raptors in a Raid cofig is why I said what I said, too many people are building rigs like that

without the juice to support them. I may be biased however, by to much 'radiation', coming

of some of the network servers, I was 'slaved' to. hahaha

Storm Raven

Yeah, I just have one hard drive...

Is there any way to find out what the wattage on my PSU is besides opening up my case? I'll be in there soon enough anyway, but it would be nice to know. Might need to upgrade it to be on the safe side. They aren't super pricey.

Actually, 8800GT cards can be had for $150. Theres a nice 8800GTS card as well from MSI that comes with The Witcher for $130. :)

Back to the whole processor switch, I wonder if I'll need an aftermarket cooling solution as well. Going from a 2.4 Ghz to a 3.2 Ghz would generate a lot more heat.

Anyway, all the upgrades are on the plate. One at a time, I guess! At this point, a graphics card for $129.99 (with The Witcher!) seems like a pretty smart idea. Then the whole power supply, processor, cooler schtick, and I should be set for a few years. Until I need yet another new GPU, but I doubt I'd be able to upgrade the processor past 3.2 ghz! Might as well buy a new rig at that point.
