L.F. Pointers/coaching for modding armor/weapons

G'day folks.

 

With the imminent release of WotC I find that there are a few things I want to change about the game.

 

1. I want to be able to wear the Reaper/Skirmisher/Templar armor on any and all soldiers. It does not matter how this is done really, if they are just added to cosmetic options or actual items. Preferably I want to add them as tier-specific options. Basically when getting alloy armor, under the alternative looks, I can chose the different hero-armors as options. Only cosmetic change ofc. Ie the item-stats are not applied as to keep the balance as intended by Firaxis.

 

2. Any weapon any class. Reason is I really dislike how the cannon looks, and would be more inclined to use heavy's if I could equip them with a rifle. Additionally, getting pistols are primary weapons would allow for some interesting class-constructions.

 

- Ponderings on 2. I would prefer if, say, replacing the sword with a pistol would change any and all sword-specific abilities to pistol specific abilities. However, I realize this would be a massive undertaking. Though... if I knew how to do this, I would be very inclined to get this working.

 

- Additional pondering. I would like to let the weapon dictate what animation is used. Reason is that the "primary pistols" mod looks weird since the soldiers all run around holding the pistols as they would holding a rifle.

 

- It would be nice to be able to add say the Dragunov sniper as a cosmetic variance to the regular sniper rifle. Much like I am seeking to accomplish the armor-aesthetics alteration. Probably under the "pattern" option on each weapon.

 

 

 

I am turning to the community for pointers. Ofcourse, if someone says these things are already in the pipeline, then my lazy side would be happy :D

If not:

 

- Is there a XCom2 modding tutorial site?

- What files would be likely to hold the settings I am looking to alter?

- Is there any specific programs I need to alter this information? (hex editor, game-specific decoding software, etc).

- For the mods that does similar things, does anyone know any links where the inner workings are discussed?

P.S.

I personally really dislike the stupid way the Assault class reloads the weapon. But I am guessing altering that is not as simple as pointing towards another set of animations. Thus I am guessing that I would have to alter the animation directly. Which is not something I would be able to do without several hundred hours of animation tutorials. So I am hoping that someone else already has a working mod for this. If you know of it, I would love to get the link. My mod-list search has yielded nothing.
