Anime people ;)

it kinda evades me why it should even bother you that other people consider one style or another as anime / cartonish

i'm not an anime fan, although i like Hellsing, Berserk, Ghost in the Shell and some other anime series. I use Willow companion mod for FONV, and some might say that is anime. In fact, i really think it doesn't matter at all what i ( or you, or anyone) do to enjoy my game better, including transformer-porn-skimpy mods for Skyrim with japanese high-school hentai NPCs.

I also think it's unavoidable that at one moment or other, someone will come on the forum to express their unasked opinion about other people preferences. This is where the forum moderators intervene, and as long as i've been on this forum, they're doing a good job about it.

Now, pertaining to OP, i looked at all the pictures you presented , and honestly, i've never seen something more different than anime.

Old egyptian pharaoh painting inside the pyramids are more anime than the collection you presented. And, being now in the debate section of the forum, what is the debate about, anyway?

Anime is a lore unfriendly woman to a lot of these people, in fact if you substitute the word "anime" with "woman" in their complaining posts you'll see exactly where a lot of them are coming from. I recently uploaded a picture of a new character I'd made for New Vegas, she has spiky hair but not anime style, more a late 70s punk style, needless to say passing loremongers branded her an anime character.

Well, pretty much that's what I'm talking about. I'm using a vaguely asian looking girl with a high pony tail, so, you know, it's not even some spiky super-sayan kind of haircut, to pose my stuff on, and it only took a couple of days for it to be called anime. Since none of the screenshots even shows her from the front, or gives much of a look at her face, I was left seriously drawing blanks as to what's anime there.

I vividly remember when the troll site (no, not the official forums, I mean the one known as Somethingawful.com ) decided to run a campaign against Japanese modders and anime type stuff for Oblivion, the title of the thread was on the lines of "Let's get these Japanese modders to stop modding and get this anime(expletive deleted) out of the game." Now who in the hell made them the arbiters of taste I do not know, because as far as I am concerned, you have what you like in your own game.

My point is that I got to know EXACTLY what the OP means. At the time, I had no real idea what the heck anime was and it's still not something I know much about. I was beta testing a race mod at the time. No, it wasn't an Asian race mod, it was elves based on WoW. I was asked to do so because I make somewhat attractive looking characters which are a good advert. Now I do not frequent that site myself, but a friend of mine emailed me with a link to alert me to the thread and the fact that they were using screenshots of my characters, some male and some female, to make their point. I took the utmost delight in telling them that actually I am British, the race mod was made by a German modder with tattoos contributed by an American modder, and that the clothes on the males were by a British modder (AlienSlof), and that they really ought to get their facts right.

Needless to say, this sort of trolling is most definitely not allowed on Nexus, thank goodness there are some places with standards.

So yes, dare to make cute toons rather than ugly ones and the default response from some is "Gaaah...anime!" As it happens, women by default have, as a general rule, much smaller chins and jaws than men. And eyes that are either larger or made to look larger with make up. So the anime haters are doing nothing but a knee jerk response. Or else all women are anime....

OMG. I just realised. I am an anime character (albeit a somewhat ancient one), because I have large, wide spaced eyes and a short chin.

I am just being sarcastic to illustrate a point. Sweeping generalisations like the ones made by the anime haters really get my goat.

It is pointless to debate taste....

- 7 billion peoples on this planet with similar but still different taste on this planet.

- 7 billion peoples on this planet that try to socialize the other into what they like.

- 7 billion peoples on this planet that can find always something they can hate or dislike.

- 7 billion peoples on this planet and that try to socialize the other to express their hatred or dislike.

Using Anime as word to express a dislike for a specified kind cuteness isn't making this world better.

and if one uses a mirror and say 50 times "Obama is anime" it will become the more one say's the words, "I'm anime!" and it works with everything one can dislike or hate. One can exchange the words with anything, but in the end debating taste is meaningless.

On modded games everyone can express their own taste within their own game. Since it is a taste related thing. i don' rate mods / pictures that uses anime features less it is simple an expression of what a modder or / and a fellow gamer likes. I can say "I like" or "I dislike" and be done with it. It is only my own taste I express. I don't need others that share my view in hating or liking something if I find something good I stay if not I move on. it is that simple, but debating taste is always a fruitless undertaking unless you desperately want to find like minded people that like or dislike something. And then there are those who ...

There are constructive critics and destructive critics, i go with the constructive ones because if someone wants to improve to things so others likes them, the one needs to listen to constructive critics. The destructive ones go directly to the bin eaven if they hold some constructiveness, because someone that isn't able to .express in a mature fashion where something is liked and not liked cant be taken seriuos to improve one thing to the point it more liked by others.

On faces- Most people like symmetry of faces the more symmetrical a face is the more it is liked. If a face is shaped heart like is most liked is something also known. ( in anime the later is used a loot as far as I know.) These are only some basic facts about modern Physiognomy. If you don't believe it, take a look the the faces of modern fashion models or movies actors, most of them have these two features or at least one of them.

Duly noted, but also irrelevant, since I'm not comparing Leonardo with any particular Japanese artist. I'm comparing the face shape and structure in those paintings with the kind of face called "Anime" on these boards. They may not be done by a da Vinci or Raphael, but have the same face shape. Yet the same people who'd balk if you called a face in Raphael's paintings "anime", are more than liberal with calling far more western faces "anime" in mods. In fact, pretty much anything less than a male face, sooner or later someone will be calling it "anime."

My point is that basically if I were to spend some time in the CK and make a toon like the leftmost woman in that Raphael painting without telling anyone what it's based on, do you have any doubt that people would be calling it "anime"?

You are confusing a number of unrelated concepts and then projecting your own mistakes onto others. You take a few isolated incidents of people trolling as the accepted norm.

Your point is completely invalid since it relies on quibbling over pointless semantics and taking offense at the use of mere words. Just grow up, for heaven's sake.

I fail to understand how topics like these get a ton of posts. Why do so many people care? I really do not get it. If you don't like something like this why do you care if someone else does? If you do why do you care so much when people hate on it? I just don't see how so many people can get genuinely upset about anime mods or people.

I personally dislike anime mods and I do not really care for anime in general. It is beyond me how so many people can actually care deeply about these kinds of things.

At the end of the day it is completely up to your personal opinion and taste.

You're missing the point, marharth. The OP (and myself) are talking about how the "Gaah...anime" is a stock response these days when anyone dares to post a picture of a character that isn't butt ugly, particularly if it is of an attractive female. It is not an argument for or against anime mods as such. It's a case of pointing out the absurd, for example if some of the leading old masters were around today and posted their artwork, it would be probably two minutes before someone posted after them and whinged "Why do you have to draw anime characters? Don't like, baawwwww.....". I pointed out the absurdity of the fact that according to the reckoning of many people, I myself am actually an anime character because I have large wide set eyes and a short chin.

In short, we are suggesting that people change the record and not use sweeping statements about anime all the time, as it gets a trifle dull. The fact is that certain types of features have been considered appealing since way before anime was ever thought of, hence the OP showing us pics by the old masters to illustrate his point.

We've already seen a fair bit of it in threads about beautifying the characters of Skyrim, particularly if you dared to object to how wrinkly the vanilla toons were. A number of posters have supported the view that the term anime is being used as a broad brush when it should not be.

If you read my previous post, you will note that I have declared myself to be not at all knowledgeable about anime, therefore neither a fan nor against it. Yet I have still been trashed as a promoter of it, just because my characters are attractive.

I admit to being a relative virgin with anime, the toons that inspired it and the genre that followed was definitely after my time. However in Skyrim there are only two basic camps of body/clothes mods....the extremely well endowed ladies (CBBE) and their attendant skimpy outfits and the more petite (UNP) ladies and their outfits which have a fair amount of anime clothing made for them. My visual preference goes more to the normal than the voluptuous female form and anime clothing/armor sets are really some of the only striking and new outfits being presented. It's simple, I download and use the mods on a normal non anime character and see no problem with those who want to go full throttle and have their character be anime in facial features as well. The game is fantasy so if anime fantasy is what someone wants then go for it.

Well please allow me to deflower you ... (I just had to say that) lmao ... neither of the body mods in Skyrim are "anime" ... I personally go nuts for Dimon99's stuff ... sorry I'm a groupie.

And like you I use the clothing mods that I find I'm most comfortable with ... I don't see the issue with anime at all and though I see what others are saying ... it really shouldn't be an issue ... why is it one, why should anyone care what mods people make and use ... if you don't like it then don't use it but DONT pan other people because they enjoy it.

In all honesty I wouldn't mind an anime mod like Shojo for the face while still using dimon's mod ... that's what i did in F3 and I don't mind running around in Skyrim in a short school dress and blasting bolts of lightning at my enemies ... why should you care ?

My "you" is a broad based you, as in everyone and not as in "you" Aurielius as i'm sure he knows this well, but I say this for people who might think otherwise.

This is a guilt trip ... people are putting each other on ... and it's wrong.
