kthompsen
$800 will get you a really kickass monitor. But it sounds like your needs are basic. Get what I just did then: Viewsonic VX2457 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018MYTH9U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's a 24 incher and still has FreeSync. But there are similar models that scale up 27 and above. You should be able to find them. When I say "kickass", I mean a monitor with G-Sync. Most monitors are cheap these days (even some large ones), but G-Sync has extra Nvidia hardware (rather than FreeSync that uses your Graphics Card) and these are the only ones in the $500+ range. If you simply stay away from G-Sync, you can get many things you'd be happy with, and in large sizes. As for 4k, that's a bit trickier. You'll find that many gaming monitors are still 1080 and 2k. Seems 4k is more common with TVs. Edited September 2, 2017 by kthompsen
jones177
Hi I use a 4K & 3440 X 1440 wide screen monitors. With a GTX 980 ti I would go 4k. Either a Samsung or ASUS 28" TN monitor. They go for around $400. If you want to spend more go IPS or VA. 4k is about choices. With a GTX 980ti you can play older games at 4K & modern games at 2560 X 1440. This game runs in 4k with light Reshade a around 56fps average on a GTX 980 ti if you have a descent CPU. It looks better with medium Reshade at 2560 X 1440. I watched YouTube videos reviews to make sure that the 4k monitors I perched are good at 2k & 4k resolution. I am planning to replace my 28" Samsung monitor with a 32" VA or IPS monitor next year. I am hoping that the next gen will be over 60hz. I do not recommend getting a 3440 X 1440 WS monitor with less than a GTX 1080. With a 980 ti your frame rate would be in the 50s & dropping the resolution puts your pixel density too low for the amount of money you spent. I have had a 4k monitor for 2 years & the 3440 X 1440 for a year. I am still undecided which one I like better. Later
WFRJ
Thanks so far. I forgot to mention that I do want an IPS screen. How important is g2g in rpg games? I can get a deal on a Dell UP3216Q 4k but it has a response time of 6ms (or worse, of course)
jones177
My 3440 X 1440 VA panel is 4ms. My 4k TN panel is 1ms. I can't tell any difference between them playing the type of games I play. Since I am looking to replace my 4k tn monitor I have been looking at reviews for some time. I have not found a good gaming review on a Dell UP3216Q, When they do mention gaming they also mention screen tearing. This is a great time to buy a 27/28" 4k gaming monitor(my monitor goes for $369 now) but not a 32" one. That is why I am waiting for next year.
