The Nexus search engine

Hello i had a great idea for the nexus family of sites, Why not add a search engine like google to the front page, i surely would make it my Home page then, I am not alone aswell. Fonger agrees it should be done.:thumbsup:

I support this suggestion. I'd definately stop using Google and put Nexus as my home page.

Due to the new coding project reaching a close release, no changes will be made until after it is rolled out and stable.

 

Keep it in mind and bring it up again after it is stable.

Just wondering... what about google's search engine exactly are you aiming at here?

 

I'm working in the SEO business (Search Engine Optimization) and know all the treats with the "meta" information "-title", "-description", "-keywords", what a "robots.txt" does, what "sitemap" is for, how their page crawlers go about indexing pages, following links and such, "rel"="follow", "nofollow", "index", "noindex", all the magic guidance for the crawlers, and how quickly you're down in their page ranking when they found the same content on two or more pages of your site.

 

The background working of those webpage search engines is rather highly complex, and honestly, I can't see mod authors going far out of their way to add all this SEO information stuff to their uploads, if most not even provide proper tags for the existing search system now.

 

Google's search engine is for searching webpages, not game mods. That'd be like comparing apples to... jet propulsion engines (in lack of the word for the other fruit). So what exactly is it from google's search engine you want to see adapted here for mod searches? :ermm:

 

Or is it simply the interface rather than the engine? The way you go about your search with those tools, not the technicalities behind the scenes how they're determining your results? Just wondering, as I can't make heads or toes of this comparison right now.

I think they're literally asking for the google search box to be added to the Nexus, so they can search Google (not the Nexus) and ergo make the Nexus their home page. Is that correct?

Just think about it, if Nexus was even half of all members home page, we probably wouldn't be able to login for a week, and there goes all of our great modding experience (not experience as in expert, but as in wonderful time).
