My character won't level up, stuck at 1

Title explains it all. I installed mods today for the first time. These are the active mods I have on:

Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition

Cutting Room Floor

SMIM-SE

IcePenguinWorldMap

Skyrim Flora Overhaul

Immersive Citizens

RealisticWaterTwo

Alternate Start - Live Another Life

 

 

I began a new character and she isn't leveling up at all.

 

Can anyone help me?

check to see if you have any conflicts or errors in SSEEdit but also check for compatibility patches for Alt start and CRF

Was this ever resolved? I'm having the same issues. I also have a few of the mods you have: Alternative Start (I have proven this is not the issue), SMIM-SE, Unofficial patch, Flora Overhaul, and Realistic Water Two.

How and to whom have you proven Alternate Start isn't the issue? Not saying you're wrong, but from the mentioned mods the only one I don't use is that one and I've got no problems leveling up. I'm running 366 mods with 252 plug-ins.

I just loaded up SKSE and my character is stuck at level one. I don't gain experience from regular play (fighting, using magic, sneaking, completing quests) but i got some xp by helping a npc and they taught me some speech in return. But thats it.
What is the deal?

The deal is you check which mod causes the glitch. If you add mega-powerful-humongicious spare parts to your car's engine and it stays on the start line when everyone else disappears across the horizon in a cloud of dust, you check under the hood what you did wrong and/or which part causes the bloody thing to not advance.

Thank you. I've checked though all my mods (disabling them a few at a time) and the problem still persists. I am using LOOT as well... but i hear that doesn't cause any issues. Any more suggestions?

Have you tried the lot but without Alternate Start? Have you checked that you are using the correct version of SKSE64? Try with manually putting the SMIM esp above Run For Your Lives and both JK mods. I'm running those also and SMIM is sitting in spot 11, JK's Whiterun on 102, JK's Riverwood in 103 and RFYL in spot 105 in Nexus Mod Manager (got 352 mods with 225 pug-ins.

Yes, I have reloaded a game without alternate start. Double checked SKSE64 and that's right (even checked online). Changed SMIM's location.
I've reloaded saves and started several new games, with and without mods installed. Still no xp gained. Man. I am totally SOL i guess?
I do gain XP from reading books and from npcs that can teach (sell) you XP. But thats it. Not naturally though game play... using magic, sneaking, fighting, etc.

Best thing to do is uninstall all mods, run an integrity check through steam and try an unmodded game first, then add mods when all seems fine. If you haven't updated the game in a while and don't want to update, then first copy your exe files to a safe place to later add them back to the install directory to stay at the version you're currently playing.
