Followers keep dying on me!

First I lost Lydia. No great loss, she was a pain in the butt more than anything else. I kept having to reload to bring her back to life and she was always getting in my way.

Then some clown from Morthal who reckoned himself as a hard character followed me for a couple of quests before meeting his maker in Blackreach.

But my latest loss is bothering me...

On Sunday, I purchased a home in Solitude. It came with a nice young lady who wanted to serve her Thane so I stripped her of all her clothing, not because I'm some kind of perv, it was so I could dress her in full ebony battle gear. Yesterday, I finally plucked up the courage to do battle with that evil cow at Fort Kastav Prison. Having tried unsuccessfully on numerous occasions I felt confident now that I had all of Midas' destruction spells available and my dear new housemaid in tow. Well would you believe it, no sooner had we arrived and begun to defend ourselves a sodding dragon waltzes onto the scene to distract me! I dispatched him to his grave and went to deal with the aforementioned bovine necromancer. Goddarn it, my housemaid is dead!!! We weren't even on first name terms yet so this is bothering me.

Is it normal that they die so quickly and is there any way I can go shopping for a new housemaid?

I would really like to install Mavern BlackBriar in my Solitude retreat as my b*tch however for the moment I have yet to discover how to effect a gay marriage with her.

hi again AleCuneo, this is a well implemented mod:

Undying Companions - WG by Warrior G0el

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=11009

here's another mod i've liked; but, it has more features/complexity for resolving specific issues.

Follower Tweaks - Several Flavors by Expired

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=3111

fyi, the modders have been careful not to alter anything follower/companion related that might break the game.

i think you might even find an optional 'wear anything' x-dressing tweak for your follower/companion lol.

Without using console commands, the only in game way I know of is by the use of enchanting. Get your enchanting to 100 and dual enchant the whole works. Give all resist bonus to at least above 60% on fire/ frost/ magic. Take resist magic to above 80. Boost weapon skill and armor rating. You can, with a shield, give 14 perk-ups with enchanting. If you opt for no shield, put a staff on the follower, they'll equip it in the off hand and use it like its no-body's business.

As a final note, taking shock resistance is a waste of a precious enchanting perk. Resist magic does that and also adds to fire/frost magic damage avoidance.

I can imagine you walking into town. All the available housecarls are whispering," That's the one. That adventurer that over confidently strutted into town. You heard about what happened to Lydia from Whiterun. Always uses others as a meat shield to protect that untested and pretty armor. Well, I for one will not fall for the charms and be swayed to fall for that. I mean, why even consider doin... kind of cute though, doing that. IT will be a warm day in, and muscular, in Skyrim before you find me, and their eyes, putting myself in harms way for .. for.. uhhh hmmm.. that!

The next thing you know, the newly acquired companion, is dressed like a certain wanted Redgard woman fighting a dragon, on your behalf, in the standard attire of a typical serving girl.

"If a battle can't be won, don't fight it" - Sun Tzu, The Art of War

don't attempt to fight a hard enemy with your compnaion(s) unless you are 100% confedinet going in that they will survive to see another dawn.

Glad I am not the only one. Sometimes I don't even know a companion is dead until I fast travel somewhere and they don't follow.

I've lost most of the housecarls, the Priestess of Azura, even my favorite kitty (who unfortunately had Spellbreaker in his possession and now I cannot find)

RIght now I have Aela the Huntress and I intend to keep her alive.

Neither of these allow me to make Mavern into a follower. I'm obsessed with her because she is so darned rude. I just have to train her and make her subservient to me. ;D

Dirge is another one that needs to respect his superiors but I would rather kill him than marry him. ;)

GEEEEZ. MAVEN BLACK-BRIAR. UGH. lol.

must've mentally blocked out you mentioning it, can't stand the sight/sound of that...

she's treacherous and ambitious (perfect skyrim evil character), most players are frustrated by her,

want to do something violent, and suspect Bethesda may have somekind of DLC plans.

Maven's already tagged essential for spoiler reasons - not getting into that.

dude, siiick puuuppy, you've got issues lol; BUT, really like your Solitude bia*tch plan YES!

don't know if MavenBB will even function properly as a follower,

messing around with faction/relationship settings via console might break-zeee-game whatever.

also, might not get dialogue options made by the Maven's voice actor.

oh well, yer funeral, save da game & be prepared to go back to it lol.

you can make almost any non-player character (npc) a follower,

some NPC classes cannot be made into followers or be married, good luck w/Mav.

for what its worth, here's console commands you can try, select maven's big ugly face:

setrelationshiprank 14 3

(where 14=player & 3=ally, ranks range from -4 to 4, nemesis-lover).

addtofaction 5c84d 3

(5c84d is the 'follower' faction, 3 is rank in faction, ally,

this will get you the 'Follow me, I need to abuse you' dialog option).

addtofaction 5a1a4 3

(adds player ally faction)

now, immediately relocate to the Solitude basement, equip something skimpy, and break out the

daedric torture tools.

no idea if all this will work on Crack-Briar; so, please be careful using console.

keep that magic away from me, i'll stick with sexy Lydia for now thank you.

you'll need to figure out commands to set Solitude as homebase, the marriage thing; and,

i'm sure i missed some commands.

checking out comments for similar mods on Nexus that do the follower thing might be helpful.

You can revive your dead companions via the console. I can't remember the precise commands, you can you tube it. I used it once when I was playing early game and didn't even know my companion died.
