Rhodoks. If you're planning on starting your own kingdom, the Rhodoks are a good place to start. Their crossbowmen are really powerful. I was playing mainly as the Sarranid and when I decided to turn my attention to the Rhodoks, their crossbows continuously wiped out my armies when I sieged their castles. Not even Mamlukes came close to them.

I used to play with the Nords. They were very effective in close combat if you knew how to handle the infantry properly. Shield walls were easily broken up by their axes. Then I tried Rhodoks, who I like to think are their arch rivals in terms of style. I built armies of mainly shield users and crossbowmen, and we could cut down almost any army in that way. Was great in sieges too, which was why I liked it so much.

But nowadays I like playing with the Sarranids. They're moderately good at everything, which gives you more flexibility when it comes to building an army. No real weaknesses, but they're not the best at anything so you're going to need to both build a really big army and know what you're doing tactically to be really effective with them. Being all-around though means that I can sweep through enemy territory with them and not really be at a big disadvantage regardless of terrain or situation, which I always found to be a problem when playing with Nords and Rhodoks, which is why I ended up sticking with the faction completely.

I know the commonly accepted strategy is to mix troops from each faction, but I generally don't do that because part of the fun for me is making whatever faction/style you choose work.

I like the Swadians and the Vaegirs the best. I voted Swadian because I like everything about them (except Harlaus!) and I also like the Vaegir's location, plus their top end horsemen is very close in comparison to Swadian knights.

Khergits - Love the mongolian feel I get from them. Doulis are cool looking as well.

Their soldiers are actually fairly well rounded, but in my current playthrough as a Khergit noble I actually enjoy using liberated manhunters and mercenaries from Floris Mod..

Playing as the Nords with Swadian allies. The only foes that prove problematic are Rhodoks and the Khergit Khanate. But as of my current playthrough, Rhodoks is almost completely conquered and the Khanate is cut in half by Nordic castles.
