RGMage2
Businesses exist to make money. If they don't make money they go out of business. Some people delude themselves into thinking that because a corporation makes a cool product, that means the corporation itself is cool and a friend. Corporations/businesses are not your friends, and they do not betray you when they pursue their own interests. The consumer's relationship with a business is simple, they bring the product, you bring the money. If you don't like what they are offering, or you think it's not worth the money, then you move on. It's a big marketplace and consumers have many options. IMO video gaming provides a phenomenal entertainment value, and I am grateful that I live in these times where I have these options. Sure I would like to get everything for free, but I know it is better that these companies make a healthy profit so they can continue to produce content that I am willing to pay for. I like Bethesda, but Bethesda isn't a friend... it's a business.
TheMastersSon
I agree with RGMage2's general sentiment, but imo it's beyond ridiculous (and yes, greedy) to suddenly start charging for mods for a game, when you've been making its very development system available, free of extra charge yet, for so many years. Obviously Bethesda can do whatever it wishes legally, but in practical terms imo it's clear bait and switch. Countless thousands of game owners have produced countless thousands of mods and every one of them are now required to treat this content differently than when it was produced. Also, we know from other modding communities that introduction of money instantly destroys the community and converts the activity into a business. Again the company can and will do whatever it wants, but imo if they wish to try new ideas with revenue streams (especially one this potentially substantial), imo they should do so with new product. It's industry protocol if nothing else, but certainly not legally required. So I agree with the greed charge.
