Upload fiasco

This is madness!

So, I used to upload a few translations and want to use the same version number as the original file, just that people know what they get.

If I come across some minor stuff I or the user who provided me his previous work forgot to translate for example, I fix it, then delete the current file on Nexus and upload the fixed one with the same file name and version number.

Just stating the changes in the changelog with the date of the reupload.

Now the maniac magic:

The file will be reverted to the previous one with all changes gone. It's like I never did any change, even if the uploaded file shows the current date.

I thought DELETING a file really deletes it not that it will be saved and restored if a new file with the exact same name will be uploaded.

I've lost many of my own changes now, as I sometimes redownload them on my own just to make sure users get what I have, which isn't the case because of that issue.

Is this a necessary feature or an oversight?

Either way, users should be informed that this can happen.

Cheers

If you update your files in any way, proper version control would mean you increment your version number accordingly.

This issue occurs because we use a global CDN that has thousands of servers all over the world. It's not as simple as just "deleting" the file, as it takes a long time for the delete command to propagate across the entire world. Which is why you end up with an odd situation if you upload a file with the exact same name and version attached to it.

I see.

The thing is, that I don't want to change the version of a translation, since it is based on an original file, with which the translated version should match. I neither change the file name as that would a real pain with "IsModLoaded". ^^

Many people add stuff like DE or SP or any other language shortcut in the translated file name, which is actually pretty bad for compatibility.

Anyways, I guess changing the archive name, should help with this issue.

Thanks for your response. Seems I've to redo my changes then and be a bit more careful with my next updates.

I'll rather save the files on my hard drive either, instead of using this site as my storage then. Should prevent any further loss and upload issues, I hope... ^^

Well... Actually it had something good.

After I checked over the whole translations again, I found some stuff which was even forgotten by AltDunmer to be translated. ^^

This time I also checked the upload files by redownloading them again. Seems everything is up to date... :)

I still lost a whole day. :P
