Custom voiced follower copyright?

Recommended Posts

Hi there, i'd like to know if using some audio files in a mod could be seen as copyright infringement.

To be more specific i'm talking about making a custom follower using the valve's responses from the game Dota 2. As an example: https://dota2.gamepedia.com/Axe/Responses

Can anyone enlighten me on that topic?

Thanks

You can make it for yourself, to use as a personal mod, but you can't release it using those assets.

When you upload a mod on the Nexus, you accept the terms and conditions, which are:

I testify that all the content in the files I am going to upload are my own or are used with the express permission of the original creators of the files I have used and I have properly credited the original creators in my ReadMe, and in the mod description or in the "Credits" text area of the "Distribution permission" section of this page. I understand and accept that I will be banned from this site if I am found to be lieing about this.

You are not allowed to use assets from other games unless the developers grants permission to do so. CDPR allows use of Witcher assets, which is why there are so many Witcher armor mods and things. You can recreate something yourself, from scratch, like if you're duplicating a weapon from World of Warcraft or something, but you can't steal those assets from the games. Outside of those limited allowances, pretty much everything from other games is not allowed unless you have express permission.
