Is it appropriate to offer financial compensation/incentive in a mod request?

Hello, everyone.

I'm just curious if it's okay, or appropriate, to offer some kind of financial compensation (or incentive) in a mod request. I kind of feel like that may not only entice a modder to fulfill my request, but also just a nice gesture since it would essentially be a talented individual using their own time, and applying their skill, to create something specifically for me. I just worry it may be misinterpreted, or give a wrong impression of some kind, or something.

Also, I didn't see anything about this in the rules, but if there is something, please feel free to point me there so I know for future reference.

Thanks for any info :)

Not only is it inappropriate, it is against the Terms of Service. You know, those terms to which you agreed when you created your account.

"Do not solicit services from other Nexus members in exchange for monetary compensation or promise of such compensation in connection with content that falls within the scope of a game publishers EULA."

Link to the Terms of Service is at the top of this and every page in the Nexus Forums.

Hi, M48A5. Yes, I saw that, but I guess the "... in connection with content that falls within the scope of a game publishers EULA" part threw me off a little, as I wasn't entirely sure where mods fell in with that. More specifically, I didn't think third-party modifications to a company's content were covered in their EULA, aside from the generally included "we're not liable for what other people do to our game"-type information, and measures to prevent people from selling their content (mods) without the company's consent. Offering a donation for a mod, however, seemed like it wouldn't be a problem.

Anyway, good to know. It only seemed right that if I'm going to request that someone do something for me, I try to compensate them for their time and effort with a donation.

There is a donation system in place here but it is as a "thank you" and not for mods. A donation can be made to any member who has set up to do so here on The Nexus. Some do it, some do not. However direct offers of compensation of any kind for a mod is not permitted at this time. ~Lisnpuppy
