Cannot get TES5EDIT to work.

My Skyrim just started crashing on saves and I do not know what is causing it. I installed TES5EDIT, but when I start it I get a registry error. "Fatal: Could not open registry key: \SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks\Skyrim| This can happen after Steam updates, run game's Launcher to restore registry settings" I have ran the "SkyrimSELauncher.exe" several times and get the same error. When I click on OK the Edit window opens, but I cannot figure out where to go from there. I watched a couple of videos and seems like I am missing a window when the Edit opens. (see attached)

I still have a slight issue.

When you run LOOT and it tells you there is an issue with a mod and gives you a cleaning guide link. The problem is the link goes to a guide and video for TES5edit. Also is there a video out there to show how to clean the mods that is made for people who are NOT modders? One for us poor fools who just have the mod and get totally lost after 3 minutes of the current crop of videos?

The guide is good for for all iterations of TESXEdit where X is the game. In other words it is the same tool just adapted to that particular game. If you google TES5Edit you will get a number of hits which will include tutorials. You can narrow it down by including "cleaning guide". Gopher has an excellent and easy to understand cleaning guide tutorial video which I would recommend.

LOOT will tell you that some of your esp's need cleaning but you should only clean the four esm's; Update,Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn. LOOT cannot tell if ITM's for mods are needed for that mod to function properly. You should only clean a mods esp if the mod author specifically tells you if it is alright on his mod description page. This pertains to ITM's only, if a mod has an UDR it is alright too clean that although this is rare as most responsible mod authors are very good about not leaving UDR's in their mods.

Having said that there is one popular mod, I forget the name, which has UDR's in it but the mod author specifically tells you not to clean those UDR's as they are necessary for that mod to function properly. One of the many reasons that you should always read every mods description carefully and not just go to the mod page and blindly download and install that mod.

That is normal, just clean those esm's and you are done. Be aware though that if you verify the integrity of your files with Steam you will have to clean those files again. Steam will scan those files, see that changes have been made to them, and download the original files.

This is what my LOOT screen looks like. It says I have 4 messages.

Wow ... that looks FAMILIAR:

My Post

Ok so now I'm for SURE something batty is going on here. By the way man, if you clean those mods, you may get some random CTD'ing, as you will read in my post. To fix it, googling the issue will tell you that you will probably have to verify your game cache via Steam (Library, SSE (R-Click->Properties->Local Files)). This will start an endless loop because once you clean those DLC .esm's, you will CTD in certain areas of the map, in the same spots EVERY TIME. To fix it, verify game cache, which brings back the dirty DLC .esm's we both have .... and now you've entered the endless loop.

I am currently researching this issue and trying to find people who can help solve the problem. I have over 140+ mods and did not have an issue until this problem arose about 10-11 days ago (or so). I also have a L50+ character I do not want to lose to this issue. Something happened to some of us with this exact same issue apparently, so a solution will definitely have to be found.
