MasterAub
Bethesda Softworks Announces Development Partnership with Splash Damage Splash Damage has been recognized by the industry for the quality of its titles and particularly for its skill in creating cutting-edge multiplayer games. Does it means TES V will be a MMORPG? I sure hope not...However if we could get a multiplayer option (playable for free)...then I guess I will be more than happy... What's your take on this news??? macmert
Well if they want to work on a mmorpg, I am out... I hate mmorpgs cause it is never a roleplay game... the elder computer freaks would know the real deal, like the Baldur's Gate series, the eye of the beholder series, neverwinter series, and many old rpg's like system shock, deus ex (The first one) Divine divinity, Fallout... and many more, they are RPG's not some crap where you run run run, hit hit hit, got hit, and run run run again, drink drink drink... the potion... So many younger players dont give a crap about the story line or the rpg elements of the game, instead they look for stunning graphics and nothing else, when these youngsters start to play a mmorpg, they dont try to roleplay, they try to hit the enemy find the best weapon and be the higest level possible and they think this is RPG... Spending skill points and having an elf PC doesnt mean you are roleplaying... So I will never play TES 5 if it is a mmorpg... But maybe they want more NPC elements in the game, like living, sleeping eating having an actual life and embedding this to the new game, so they want to use Splash Damage's experience somehow... MasterAub
macmert, I sure agree with you...Like you I am out if TES V is MMORPG a la World of Warcraft...That is for sure... However if it's about having the possibility to play (for free) with 4 to 5 friends of yours on a LAN or even over the Internet (a la Neverwinter Nights) then I am for it as long as it's an option and an option only... I sincerely hope they'll use Spash Damage's Experience as a way to blow more Life in an Oblivion/Morrowind like game... My 2 cents...

What's your take on this news???I’ll say the same thing I’ve said before.A good game (video game at least) has to be a great one person game first and anything else second! If they stick to this design philosophy I don’t care what else they do to the game, it can have MMORPG or MMOFPRPG features as long as I’m not forced into it. worm82075
I think everyone is aware of Zenimax's announcement of their Online Studios and lesser known, the fact that they have purchased the domain name "Elder Scrolls Online". Now given the fact that they are hiring an entirely new crew for this venture it is highly unlikely the Bethesda will have anything to do with it other than the possibility of a connection between the single player and multiplayer games. Especially since Zenimax has also copyrighted "Skyrim" My money is on the idea that this partnership has been created to facilitate just that. You play the single player game to it's fruition and then take your character online and continue the game there. Bethesda is who they have always been, a single player game developer and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
Aoikani
Wow what a day, bethsoft servers down and now I see this anouncement?!?! Well I'll say that I've played mmo's in the past and I would most likely try TES V if it went mmorfprpg, but it really miffs me at the moment. I kind of feel like they are throwing a wrench in to the community of those who like the one person rpg environment. I might support a small lan option, but you know they are primarily doing this from their success in these stand alones and to make money. A business is in business to make money, plain and simple. But a whole lot people will be angry if they give up on their modders. What about the modders? What are they going to do with this area of Oblivion that I believe has made Oblivion so popular and successful. The Modders have made it that people want to play Oblivion. I'll really be disappointed if this partnership doesn't take this in to consideration should they go MMO. But who knows what they are planning, I guess we'll soon find out. macmert
I think the game developers are trying to do the easy stuff by publishing MMORPG... Cause you dont need to build up a great storyline and quest lines linked with that... Heck you dont even need a storyline, just throw a monster there and there, throw a bunch of players there and there, there you have it, the incredible monster of something is threatening the lives of the somethings and the brave adventurers are after the monster... Whoa I made up a MMORPG now :D I agree with you MasterAub, playing on LAN would be awesome, but I would never pay for an online game if it is something awesome or rocking the world like WOW... Because I am 27 and I am working like 10 hours a day, I need to sleep at least 6 hours a day, that left 8 hours for me to eat, travel (to work and back and stuff) spend time with my girlfriend, get social and play games :D I dont want to pay like 150 or 200 bucks for limited hours of play, I see it as a waste of money... And also to play on LAN with friends, the whole interior design must change, can you imagine trying to go through the tunnels in dungeons, mostly are relatively narrow to walk side by side, so lets say you and 3 of your friends are going down a tunnel, a monster comes out and you need to fight one by one cause the tunnel is really narrow :D not that fun I guess... NWN was fun with friends cause it was big, not the exteriors but interiors were big... so online has to be optional IMO... and I have to admit I never saw any other developer coming up with great storyline like Beth, there was Ion Storm, who published Deus ex, and of course Black Isle, bioware... so I dont want one of the greatest developers in the industry to do something online, another example is the GTA series... only the first one was available for multiplayer, and the others were not... but the other GTA's were awesome and they were not online... Well whatever, I guess I talk too much :D sorry...
MasterAub
Agree all the way macmert. Same here I never played MMORPG and probably never will... I am married and I have a job so I don't have much time on my hands...MMORPG are therefore not an option... But playing on a LAN or over the internet with 2 to 5 friends can be very fun...Yes interiors of Oblivion are not that big, however it doesn't necessary mean that interiors of a TES V will be small too... As most of you I am for a strong single player game but as mentioned a multiplayer option could be great and a real plus... my 2 cents
