Mod problems!

I am having SERIOUS PROBLEMS. Whenever I activate certain mods, Skyrim crashes right after showing the giant "bethesda games" logo.

I have version 1.1.21.0, and no I am not willing to update. When I have certain mod ESP files activated, such as midasskyrim.esp for midas magic, it works perfectly. However, when I activate an ESP such as True Dovahkiin Breath.esp (for the dragon shouts), as said before, it crashes. If the problem is actually because of my version, then I will update.

I had this kind of trouble with the nyan cat .esp file before (for the saber cat mod) but it wasn't that big a deal because the mod worked fine without it. Is that the problem? Should I just not activate the mods and just see if it will work like that? Please answer quickly!

My best guess is that a bad or incompatible mod overwrote a needed data file. More then likely you are going tohave to re-install the game if it crashes with all mods disabled. Either that, or you tweaked the prefs file where you shouldn't have.

No, that's not the problem. With all mods deactivated, it works fine. But when I activate one simple mod as mentioned before, then it crashes.

These are the mods that work:

-Midas magic

-Kamehameha sound replacment (esp doesn't work but sound replacment does)

-Nyan cat texture/sound replacment (same as above)

-Conjure Centurion Master

-Giant club mod

-Breezehome plus

-Dovahkiin hideout

and Magicka sabers.

These are the ones that don't work:

-Dragon lords (dovahkriid mod)

-Cheesify shout

-Dragonborn armor V2

-Draugur shout fix (which is REALLY strange for a fix)

-Iron helmet defense upgrade

-Legendary Smithing upgrades

-Passive dragons

-PB Dragonborn manor

-Dragonborn retreat

-Scouter mod

-Sheogorath shout

-Thuum followers

-True dovahkiin breath

and Ultimate amulet.

So far, the top priority mods for me that aren't working would be the first 9 mods noted that aren't working, along with true breath, ultimate amulet, and the sheogorath shout.

This can happen a lot with mods. You will find one of these two things with problem mods.

1. The mod was created with the latest game update in mind. If you run a version of the game that is not up to date, the mod could bork your game. It was designed for something other than what you are using.

2. The mod was created for the older version of the game and now that you have updated the game and the mod may need updating too. Mods that were perfectly fine before the update will either not work at all, or will now not play nice with other mods you have. You can only hope the mod author did not abandon the mod and will update it.

Updates do not have to bork mods, but sometimes they will. Depends on the mod. Some will not care about updates and will continue to work without issue.

Anyone that uses mods must hold their breath when the update comes. Hopefully the game will update and you will continue on without any problem. If however all of a sudden your game functionality is borked, then you must start fiddling with your mods to see what one is the problem. I had a rune mod I used for a long time but after one update my game would CTD whenever I fast traveled. All other loading screens were fine, just fast travel was borked. I traced it back to this rune mod that was abandoned and not updated, and when I deactivated it all the problems went away. I just had to wait to see if the author updated it or just move on to something else.

Deactivating a mod does not completely remove it. Some mods put files into mesh or texture folders that are not removed even when you delete the mod using a mod manager - especially if they were installed without using a mod manager.

Steam's commando style auto update can also cause problems by making unexpected changes that affect some mods.

If the mod requires some other mod or a utility like SKSE or DragonScript, It will crash if that is not installed. After a steam/Beth update, these may need to be updated also and that could take a few days.

As for removing all mods -IF you try to then load a save game it will likely crash, as the save will be looking for stuff that is no longer in the game. and the more stuff that is missing, the higher the likelyhood that something important that made a change in the game is no longer there. When killing off a bunch of mods, you may have to either go back to a save that does not rely on stuff from those mods - OR, start a new game.

If all else fails, wipe the game out and redownload from steam.

I have this one too. But I checked the bethesda site. No Patches For Skyrim. So... I guess its the Mod. But How does others play with the mod? i feel so alone.

You get your patches through Steam.

Do like many others have done. *sigh* my self included....

Wipe your game (not your saves) reboot your system and reload the game - vanilla style. Then every 2 or 3 mods you add, save your data folder. With out a save, you will be sitting back at this point again at some time in the future. With a save, you can go back to loading the game with prior saves and hopefully eliminate the source of the problem, be it mod conflict, version incompatibility or whatever it is. If it does end up being a newest latest and greatest patch THEY think you could not possibly have lived without, you might have to wait for a newer version of the plugin, patch or mod to work.

Bethesda was bad enough but tolerable. With STEAMypile, it adds a whole new dimension to the acronym WTF!!!
