I have been thinking about making a mod for a special class of mage one that casts spells using music and song. the mage would have to be a member of the bards college of course. so any suggestions, ideas or problems with the idea would be welcome.

I would like more info. Even though you have an image, what I imagine would be a singing warrior/mage perhaps. And his/her songs are essentially spells. Is that how you imagine it? :)

Thats how I picture it though some of what I picture might require new animations. A normal spell shows mage lifting a hand or hands, but with a bard the spell would be triggered by whistling or singing depending on what would be faster to trigger the spell. A combat spell is pretty worthless if the enemy can close and beat you to death before you finish casting a spell.

Area affect spells might be the PC playing a tune on a lute or drum before fire rains down or a mystic wall springs to life.

A healing spell could be cast by playing a song on an instrument while a second animation effect surrounds the PC or a NPC.

Interesting idea. I remember, from oldrim, somebody made a mod where you could play a flute and also beat people with it. I don't know if it ever advanced to spells, but I like the idea.

I have zero experience with animations, but I do have a couple of custom spells that you may like. Both knockdowns, one a short burst and the other a concentrated stream of force. Maybe useful a form of "sonic attack," from hitting a certain note. I don't know how to change it to area of effect, centered on caster, but I'm pretty sure it could be done, and would go well with a hard thump on a drum, knock down surrounding enemies.

I think I will just start with as few changes as I can and mod one spell to see how it works.

Maybe the spell effect could be like a shout effect, you dont need the hands, i would love the old dungeons and dragons bard, the jack of all trades but more mage like. They had a mod where you could cast spells holding weapons, what ever that guy did would work for destruction. The other spell schools might be fine, playing a spell to summon a monster or a healing spell. I would love to play a bard but you really cant in special edition. I hope this works out for you.

the tinkering I have done works (more or less) with non combat spells, because you get the full effect by being able to hear the song or music, I'm thinking that a single cord or Riff might work for combat spells. say a bard using a single note to cast a combat spell, while a diddy or partial song could be used for non combat spells.

I'm still tinkering with it and hopefully it will work in the end.
