Sometimes I cant activate a mod on NMM. Any help or advice?

Im incredibly inexperienced at modding. I just started today. Ive gotten some mods installed and activated on Skyrim SE easily enough but sometimes when I go to activate a mod on the NMM it will give me an error and say a problem occurred when trying to install. It happened on some of the mods that i managed to get activated. I just kept trying it over and over until it eventually went through but its very annoying, frustrating, and inconsistent. The percentage amount the mod will get to in the activation process will vary before it fails and like i said some worked after trying over and over again while some others like the Static Mesh Improvement Mod are still consistently not working.

Like i said im pretty damn inexperienced so im kinda fumbling about here. Never even messed around with stuff remotely like this until this weekend and i may be a little overwhelmed.

I attatched a screenshot of the error im getting on my NMM. If anyone can help me out i would appreciate it greatly. Thanks. :)

Hi

It is NMM not you.

I ran into the same problems updating/installing mods this weekend & I have been using NMM since the first day it came out.

To get around the problem:

First make copies of your mods. They are usually in the C:\Games\Nexus Mod Manager\SkyrimSE\Mods folder. These are the download files.

In NMM highlight the mod that would not install & press delete on the keyboard. Then click on the "+" sign in green & go to the folder that you copied your mods to. Select the mod & install.

Another way is to download mods manually. They will go into the download folder on your computer. In NMM click to the "+" sign in green & navigate to the download folder. Select the mod & install.

Either way you will end up with 2 copies of your mods. This will become important later on.

Any time that NMM acts up switch it off & then run it again.

Always check that the mod/plugin is selected in the plugin section. That is the tab to the left of the mod tab.

If you install more than 3 mods or one large mod, reload NMM.

Sometimes it takes a while for the green check mark to show up beside the mod you are installing. Be patient.

Instead of of having your manually downloaded mods go to the default folder "Downloads" which can get quite crowded as it is the default folder for many apps and programs that you download from the web I would recommend you create a folder specifically for your mods. For example I download mine to Users/my name/SSE Mods.

When you want to load and install that mod in NMM open NMM to Skyrim Special Edition go to the green cross at the left side of NMM, it will say "Add Mod From File" navigate to the folder you have downloaded your SSE mods in and double click on the mod you want to install.

C:\Games\Nexus Mod Manager\Skyrim Special Edition is where NMM keeps your installed mods and actually any mods that you have ever installed for that game whether you are using them in that particular profile or not. If you have not already downloaded and installed that mod with NMM it will not be in C:\Games etc.

NMM does have a problem with installing large mods at times so manually downloading those mods to a folder and then installing them thru Add Mod From File is recommended. Some mod authors will state on the mod page that if you have a problem downloading and installing their mod with NMM to go that route.

Copying files from C;\Games etc is redundant if you have already manually downloaded those files to a folder.

I created a new folder for mods on my drive where games, steam, and NMM are stored and tried to create a copy of SMIM and deleted the original from NMM to test these suggestions. I then used the green + to try and add it manually and also tried re-installing the mod and it didn't seem to help. Anyone have any more ideas? Thanks for the help so far.

I do not know what you mean by "tried to create a copy" I would suggest this; delete the file from NMM, then go to C:/Games/Nexus Mod Manager/Skyrim Special Edition mods and if the file is there just drag and drop it to your Recycle Bin, then download SMIM from the Nexus SSE page. I would not advise copying and pasting esp's at any time unless you know what you are doing, especially scripted mods, just too much scope for errors to creep in.

If the mod is in your SSE mod page on NMM you can highlight it then right click on it and choose uninstall and delete this mod permanently which will accomplish what I have suggested in the above paragraph.
